Help me to heal my ugly leg for summer

Does anyone have any suggestions as to creams I could try for my leg? Nurse at GP surgery just tells me to moisturise more but it doesn't help. It's itchy so I scratch it, and it seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I've had it for probably 8 years or so now and it's making me miserable. It's bad enough I feel self conscious about it and I don't like wearing skirts or dresses without black tights. I'm desperate to get rid. The only thing that helped it to go in 2016 was sun beds.

What causes it ?

findingsomeone · 22/02/2022 17:42

I haven't got a clue. Nurse said it's eczema 🤷🏽‍♀️ it was just an itchy patch of skin and sometimes I could improve it a bit but these days it's just always red and angry and itchy, I can't seem to make it better with standard moisturisers and refraining from scratching. Although DH says I scratch it in my sleep.

Maturin nappy cream I think it’s called. It’s a yellow box best thing ever for rashes and itching too. I swear by it,

Dillydollydingdong · 22/02/2022 17:44

What is it? The surgery won't help if they consider it to be purely cosmetic. Have you got private insurance? It would probably be worth going private to find out what it is and getting something done about it.

Check with your GP.

Dr Pimple Popper, who I’ve watched far too much of, uses a tape impregnated with a steroid that you leave on. This both treats the inflammation and stops you itching the area and making it worse. Maybe ask for that?

NinjaQueen · 22/02/2022 17:45

If the sun beds helped would a UV lamp help, the kind you use to cure nail polish?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/02/2022 17:47

If it's itchy turn wash it with T Gel shampoo and leave it on for a while before rinsing off then moisture with CeraVe. If that doesn't work I'd ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

CMOTDibbler · 22/02/2022 17:56

I'd go to the GP, that sounds more like psoriasis, and anyway something that long standing needs more of a look

MenaiMna · 22/02/2022 18:19

Not a doctor...looks like my psoriasis at its worst. If you are in the throes of irritated itching try drapolene creme (antiseptic nappy cream), slather it on! It is very soothing. Then ask Dr for some steroid gel/ointment to use for a few days (e.g. dovobet gel). Topical steroids thin the skin so try not to get reliant on them and always wash your hands a lot so you don't thin palm skin from applying it. Once it clears a bit mix it with Aldi Lacura miracle cream (as long as you're not allergic to orange oil).

Recycledblonde · 22/02/2022 18:26

My DH has something similar and has virtually cured it by slathering it with vaseline every day. We tried an OTC steroid cream and then an anti fungal but neither of those worked. Like yours his got better in summer when he's wearing shorts and exposing it to sunlight.

TheNinthLock · 22/02/2022 18:55

That looks like psoriasis. At my worst I had that all up the front of my leg, ankle to nearly knee. I started taking turmeric and vitamin d daily for other reasons and it cleared up. I was also slathering it in sudocreme overnight (and wearing leggings to bed to stop smudging sudocream into the bed). The leggings never quite recovered but me leg healed beautifully.

*my leg. Not me leg

Flyingbymypants · 22/02/2022 20:17

I'd want to see a dermatologist and be given a proper diagnosis if I had that on my leg

mummymayhem18 · 22/02/2022 20:18

As the previous poster has said if you've had it that long they should have referred you to see a dermatologist.

supermodel · 22/02/2022 20:20

I think they should refer you to a dermatologist too.

GeneLovesJezebel · 22/02/2022 21:18

I agree that you should see a dermatologist.
