I think I am experiencing migraines

I think I might be experiencing migraines. It's a one sided headache that feels like a hangover (without alcohol) and a hammer to the head. Accompanied with nausea.

Is that a migraine headache?

My work was nasty this weekend and I was only allowed two hours sleep broken up in patches last night and now I am sick with headache.

Paracetamol didn't touch the pain.

Will a doctor prescribe anything for these migraine headaches?

I was very sore and sick today. It was a result of stress and sleep deprivation. I think what I experienced was a migraine. It's not too bad today but I did suffer earlier
Paracetamol and ibuprofen never helped me with the pain that I experienced today. I was able to shave a short sleep in the morning and that did help me today but it wasn't enough and then I had to keep on going after that.

Will a GP be able to help me with any medicines that will help with what I think is a migraine.

It sounds like a migraine, maybe without visual disturbance - as you haven't mentioned an aura, your vision going strange. The first line treatment for migraines is usually a triptan, like sumatriptan, which you get get from your GP to take if you feel one coming on.

Yep sounds like migraine. Paracetamol won't help. You need a prescription for a triptan from GP. During an epusode a cold compress or a warm one can help alleviate the pain while the meds work. Oh and a tip that my gp told me if you have nausea the gut slows down so any tablet meds will take a while to work so on his advice bought BUCCASTEM tablets over the counter at a Pharmacy. They dissolve on the gum and stop nausea. Then I take my sumatriptan with a caffeine drink (coke, pepsi) and it usually goes within 15 mins (longer if I take it with water!)

Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking it appears to be like a migraine. Yesterdays episode was bad for me. It wasn't the first time I had these headaches. They usually come on with a change in weather so thunder and lightening is a time I get these one sided headaches. The sun gives me these headaches too.

I will make an appointment at the GP in the next few more days. Hopefully my doctor will listen to me and believe me. They know I only turn up when I need a doctor.
