Why am I constantly so tired

I know no one can tell me really but I'm feeling a bit fed up.

I'm constantly tired. I go to bed between 9-10pm and I'm up at 6am. Work part time have 3 children aged 4-10. DH who helps out. Had loads of blood tests last year all normal.

As soon as I get home from work, which is 3pm ish after picking children up, I feel like I could fall asleep. Today I actually cried because youngest was asking for something to eat and I just felt so tired and no energy.

Does it get better in the summer? Could it be seasonal, dark winters?

changingjobs · 16/02/2022 18:05

@AppleJane thinking about it, yes it does seem to be better in the summer

Up for vitamin D? Try to exercise more, balanced diet?

I feel the same! Maybe life is just exhausting

Pegasushaswings · 16/02/2022 18:10

Are you drinking enough water as well? I get get so drowsy if I haven’t drank enough and never realise until afterwards!

TheVillageShop · 16/02/2022 18:11

Have you been tested for underactive thyroid?

DrCoconut · 16/02/2022 18:12

Ferritin? Vitamin D? B12? Coeliac? Other autoimmune condition? I don't think any of them are included in "standard" blood tests.

changingjobs · 16/02/2022 18:35

Thank you for all the replies.

I drink loads of water throughout the day, at least a litre.

When I had blood tests last year the nurse took loads so I presume she tested for everything. I take multivitamins and extra vitamin D and I try to exercise at least once a week. I don't eat well Sad

I'm starting to wonder if it's just life exhausting me. I feel quite stressed with work at the minute.

Could it be hormonal?
I’m currently exhausted but it’s due to insomnia thanks to the menopause.
When I was peri menopausal I used to feel completely wiped out just before and during my period (very heavy at that point), so I started taking iron supplements.

Also, I’m not sure the thyroid tests they do at the GP are very accurate because you may have a borderline result but they still tell you you’re fine.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 16/02/2022 18:47

Life is exhausting isn't it!

Cheekypeach · 16/02/2022 18:50

Same, OP. I try so hard to be the bouncy, energetic, 7-hours-sleep-is-fine, get-shit-done type person but I’m just not. I go to sleep early, take vitamins, eat relatively healthily & slim, but I just find it so so hard to get up every morning. And if I get less than 8 hours I can feel quite ill throughout the day. It absolutely sucks and I hate that I appear lazy. If I find something that works I will let you know. About to try Floradix.

Larryyourwaiter · 16/02/2022 18:51

I find as I get older the winters are a slog. I seem to just wait to go to bed.
I have restarted doing some exercise and some hobby things to distract my brain and it is helping a little.
I’m desperate for there to be some light in the evenings.

MintJulia · 16/02/2022 18:53

Under/over active thyroid, vitamin levels, iron levels, regular screening programs - mammogram, smear etc.

Talk to your GP.

TheVillageShop · 16/02/2022 18:54

I would check your blood test results to find out if they did do a thyroid function test.

It's not part of the standard 'full blood count' test and can go undiagnosed for years.

Tiredness is the main symptom but heavy periods, brain fog, weight gain and various aches and pains are common symptoms.

SameToo · 16/02/2022 18:54

Gluten allergy? Gut imbalance fucks everything up. Joy of joys. I’m feeling pretty much the same.

museumum · 16/02/2022 18:56

Stress.
I felt like you all of last year. It was stress. It took months of really carefully cutting back on stressors and conscious self care to start to feel human again. And when I did it was like waking from a deep sleep. I’m still not out of the woods now and could easily tip back under but I’m getting there.

BaggiesBride · 16/02/2022 18:59

Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling great. Could it be sleep apnea? Might be worth googling to see if you have any of the symptoms.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/02/2022 19:00

Peri-menopause.

Can I ask what you did? I'd love to feel less tired!!
