Is it normal to feel 'stuck' when you're waking up?

I've had this since my early 20's, now early 30s, but I'm just now wondering if it's something other people experience too. Often when I'm waking up in the morning I feel seized up, literally 'stuck' in bed. It's only transient, just for those few moments when coming round. It's hard to say but I reckon the feeling normally lasts 20 - 40 seconds? It's like I can't move at all in that time and have to sort of psych myself up to attempting it, and then it takes a few seconds of trying before I can move my limbs, turn over etc, and I feel very stiff. On occasion I really feel like I'm completely seized up and I genuinely start to panic, wondering if this is it this time and I really am paralysed. It never lasts more than perhaps, 2 minutes, but it's enough to freak me out when it happens. Once I have forced myself over and moved my limbs and got up I'm ok, it's just those few terrifying moments. Do other people experience this or am I a freak?

I've suffered from this as well. Sounds like sleep paralysis. Won't harm you but I agree , is terrifying . It's more common than you think . One of my DD gets it occasionally too. She's 36 . I worked out what caused mine. Sleeping on my back and daytime naps seemed to be the culprits so I avoid these as much as possible . I feel stuck and can't open my eyes but can hear . Apparently its caused by your brain waking up before your body . Once I read about it , I was reassured but still don't like it happening. It thankfully happens very rarely now .

Yes, sounds like sleep paralysis, I agree. I've had it once in a while too. If you read up on it, it helps it to be a bit less scary and there's suggestions to improve it.
