Questions about sinus op/infections and washes

Im peed off. I had a sinus op last month which was to clean out my sinuses as I keep getting numerous infections and now less than 1 month later I hav another cold and sinus infection.
Anyone else found that the operation didnt work and if so what did you do to prevent further infections?
also- anyone tried a sinus wash and if so should there be anything other than water running out?

thanks

Hi - sorry but no words of wisdom. I was recommended by my GP to have this op a few years ago but after speaking to a friend who had the op she told me that she didnt think it had worked I decided not to go ahead.

Sorry to be so negative but my brother had the operation and it didn't work either.

I use steam baths/home-made steam inhalers - bowl of hot water containing a few cloves + towel over my head etc but by then it's usually too late. Best prevention is to try and drink loads and loads of water to prevent attacks. Sorry nothing more helpful to report but hope you feel better soon.

My GP mentioned it (if it was the scraping out one)and then told me it might take multiple times to make it work. I think she was talking me out of it and it worked!

I still am spraying and taking ABs and (obviosly) speding much of the year deaf and in pain.

Had mine when i was 16 and have spent every winter since bunged up from october to feb, followed by postnasal drip until the hayfever kicks in -i get july and august symptomless usually. Before the op I used to get a couple of sinus infections a year, all they've done is open up my sinuses to infection basically

Another concrete sinuses sufferer here - I was advised against the op recently by the hospital and am prescribed flixonase which is generally keeping things at bay until I get a cold.

After the last cold I was so desperate I marched into a health food shop where the very fierce proprietor got me to buy some capsules called Aller-Max. Eye-wateringly expensive (which helps clear the sinuses for a start) at around £17 but within a few days I was much clearer.

I don't usually find alternative stuff works but this may be helping - it's always difficult to know - could just be the ordinary medication etc etc.

Sadly another negative story here I have had chronic sinusitis and ear infections for 17 years, 12 years ago I totally lost my hearing in my right ear which is permanent due to infection this has caused on going dizziness problems(this is very rare and I don't want to scare anyone). I had an operation in 1991 but as you can guess it didn't help much. My problems began after I started working in London and have eased after I had to give up work due to clinical depression. Obviously pollution didn't help but I have some allergies as well. At the moment I have a daily routine which includes using Sterimar a sea water nasal spray and Nasonex a steriod spray I also take Loratadine and Buccastem these normally keep things realtively calm but feeling a bit rough today. I now tell Doctor's when I need AB's and they are fine with this.

I did see a consultant for 12 years who was absolutely brilliant even though my problems are chronic, she has just been awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours which she really deserves.
