Tonsillitis / quinsey

I will try and keep this brief and to the point and would really appreciate anyone's thoughts . 3 weeks ago I went into hospital with BAD tonsillitis - blocked airway/ struggling to catch breath / general fever etc and got very large very suddenly. Put on a steroid , fluid and antibiotic drip and then a 10 day course of both penicillin and metronidazole together. I have a couple of episodes of tonsillitis a year and this winter alone I have had 5 !!! This last one was very soon going to become an abscess /quinsey if I hadn't got the treatment when I did.

We are now approaching week 4 after first getting poorly and whilst I do not have tonsillitis anymore (thank goodness!) I am unable to speak for a period of time before feeling generally unwell - sore throat , ear ache, tired , little dizzy and tightness in chest and back.

I have been back to the surgery and have been put on a waiting list to have them potentially removed , they took a swab of tonsils and presumably that's come back clear as I haven't heard anything from them.

I work in admin and cannot possibly talk on the phone still and we are going into week 4!!! Argh ! Is this normal ? I know I've been stressed recently but the recovery time for this is ridiculous!!

Has anyone experienced this before?

My DD16, has had this repeatedly, had 2 surgery dates and woke up the day before with tonsillitis!!
Still on the list!
It can be a slow recovery and quite debilitating, she's had countless week long bouts off school.

Ahhhhh OP I'm afraid this is fairly normal. I felt horrendous for 6 weeks after my last bout of quinsy. I was on all the various drugs for a few weeks after being discharged and it was as much this that took it out of me as much as the actual recovery.

Get some strong probiotics, drink loads of hot drinks (honey and lemon would be my choice) and rest as much as you can. Don't go back to work until you feel better, I know that's easier said than done though! I really hope you feel better soon x

I was referred for voice classes, as my voice went so often. We did breathing exercises, and made sure our voices were supported by proper breathing.... I can't actually remember!
