Like this? I've just realised I can do this 😂 no one else in the house can. Haha.

Yes and I can go the opposite way too (thumb to top of arm) on one hand. I'm hypermobile

Is a higher heart rate than normal one of the symptoms too? This thread is fascinating! My heart rate has always been high, my PE teachers at school used to think I was double counting!

My PE teachers said the same thing to me too.

Left I can, right I can't!

trevthecat · 13/02/2022 18:59

Also tried the prayer hands behind back and can do that one no problem! No diagnosis of hypermobility and have never considered it. I can also sit comfortably in the w position they check for!

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 13/02/2022 19:00

Yes

Pinkclarko · 13/02/2022 19:07

I can do this with ease, but I can only reach down to my knees before it hurts so go figure.

RoseMartha · 13/02/2022 19:11

No, but I can bend my thumb backwards and thought everyone could do this until I was recently told I was weird to be able to do that.

Sideswiped · 13/02/2022 19:25

I used to be able to do the thumb thing (note used to), and can just about still do the finger thing (just!)
I have to say that I'm pretty sure that the thumb 'trick' is what led to my CMC joints being so badly damaged I now have to wear splints to stop them moving in a way that causes agony.

One of my relatives had a doctor round evaluating some worrisome symptoms. She's in her mid sixties, so the doctor asked her, "Did you ever used to be able to bend forward with your knees straight and put your hands flat on the floor?"

"What, like this?" she says, demonstrating with ease Grin

When she was young, she could do it standing on a stack of books 🙄

You want to be wary of that. It's a well-known ruse so they can look at your bum.

So a sailor told me... Hmm

@Somuchgoo

New challenge. Can anyone else do this with their fingers?
Have just seen this. Yes, easily, on both hands.

I'm a freak.

weansu · 13/02/2022 19:57

Can also turn my elbows and knees “inside out”

I can do my elbows, the praying hands & hands on floor but wrists/fingers are not very mobile at all.

🤣 Possible, but pretty sure he was assessing for hypermobility, given the presenting complaint. And knowing her, that wouldn't have deterred her from a chance to show off her skillz…

Baystard · 13/02/2022 20:08

Can I check whether you mean that you can bend these joints normally, or that if you use your other hand then you can make them bend (without discomfort)? My thumb reaches back to my arm, and I can do that thing with the fingers, but not without me using my other hand. I probably could get my fingers bent without assistance if I wasn't so uncoordinated, but I start to get confused about which finger I'm moving Grin

I'm pretty sure I could get my foot behind my head, but I'm too scared to try in case it doesn't come back again!

caringcarer · 13/02/2022 21:51

No I can't see do that.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/02/2022 21:53

Not without breaking my wrist.
