Should I get this checked - burn?

Is it worth it? It hurts but I don’t think it’s infected or anything.
I do have autoimmune conditions too which delay healing.

Yes you should. Call 111 and take their advice as to where you should go. Burns can get infected if they are not treated in time.

SprayedWithDettol · 10/02/2022 09:44

Can you send a picture to your doctor? They might be the best first step.
Ouch, it looks very sore.

Gladioli23 · 10/02/2022 09:47

Definitely think that's big enough it should be checked out

www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-and-scalds/treatment/

It's on your arm and definitely blistered.

extractorfactor · 10/02/2022 09:50

Bloody hell op that looks agony. When did you do it? Looking at it I'd say that warrants a trip to minor injuries. if you haven't taken pain relief you probably should.

LowlyTheWorm · 10/02/2022 09:54

I don’t think I would now as it looks days old and doesn’t look infected etc. I’d have a clean and dry dressing over it to stop it catching on anything.
I’d have maybe gone to see about it when it happened though- it’s big and looks painful. Obviously if it gets worse now then go see about it.

iklboo · 10/02/2022 10:09

Might be worth asking a pharmacist as it's a few days old now but, Jesus, that looks sore! How did it happen?

Sugarmountain · 10/02/2022 10:48

It is very sore. It’s weeping a bit. 😬😬

I wonder how many people die every year from don't bother the nice doctor advice on MN. Hmm

Marynotsocontrary · 10/02/2022 10:53

I'd get that checked out. I'm sorry, it looks very painful, hope you're okay.

2022sucksalready · 10/02/2022 10:59

Holy hell, yes! Get it looked at.

Mumdiva99 · 10/02/2022 11:01

Honestly if it was mine I would leave it alone unless it didn't heal or it looked infected. Unless you need some strong pain killers because I imagine it's very sore.

thefirstmrsrochester · 10/02/2022 11:02

I’d certainly get that looked at. It looks so painful.

HopefulProcrastinator · 10/02/2022 11:10

When I wasn't sure about a burn I asked the pharmacist to take a look because they're part of primary care and knew it'd be quicker than trying to see the doctor.

They confirmed pretty quickly that I would need to be seen by a doctor because I needed prescription only items to treat it. They were great and emailed through to the medical centre to help me gain an appointment without having to jump through hoops.

Please get a pharmacist at least to look at it.

AnotherMansCause · 10/02/2022 11:17

If you go to your pharmacy they can take a quick look & tell you if it's bad enough to speak to the GP. TBH a burn that size may need proper medical attention but it's impossible to tell unless we also had your medical history & details of the burn such as how old it is & how you did it, plus other stuff like current condition of the skin etc - which you would need to speak to a professional about, not randoms on an internet forum.

Please seek medical attention OP. At the very least, a pharmacist. Preferably, straight to a GP, if there is a minor unit or the option of submitting photos etc where you are.

HoodieHoodie · 10/02/2022 11:19

I was told that the rule of thumb was that if a burn is larger than a 50p then it should be checked.

Sugarmountain · 10/02/2022 12:06

Thanks. I will go to pharmacy and see what they say.
Hopefully can just get something OTC.

You should definitely get that looked at and dressed properly. Burns can get infected very easily, particularly if you have delayed healing.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/02/2022 15:50

Was fully expecting to say no don't nother and see a tiny pin prick of a burn but OMG yes, get it seen asap.

2022sucksalready · 15/02/2022 19:49

@Sugarmountain hi, did you get this sorted? Just worried with you having an autoimmune condition. Hope it’s healing nicely.

Sidge · 15/02/2022 19:51

Make an appointment to see your practice nurse asap.

This is our area of expertise!

It needs dressing.

ruthypfdraper · 15/02/2022 19:53

I burned my foot once (roast potato fat tipped onto me). I read on nhs site that burns over a certain size needed attention. Mine was smaller than yours. I needed dressings every few days from the walk in centre for a couple of weeks. I sympathise, mine was sore. I still have a scar on my ankle.

Elliejane · 18/02/2022 07:06

@Sugarmountain what did the doctor say ?
