Prescriptions delivery

I have been wondering about trying one of the online chemists such as Boots where you have your prescription delivered to you.

I really want my prescription medicine posted through the letterbox of my front door WITHOUT the need to sign or the need to open the front door to the delivery person.

Does anyone have this type of service where their prescription medicines are delivered through the letter box?

Also, if it does not fit through the letterbox, is the delivery person allowed (with it being medicine) to leave it on doorstep or in a safe place such as a garage?

Me too. I'm all for it. 2 trips first to deliver repeat prescription another trip to go and pick it up from the chemist opposite them. Walking.

Monty27 · 08/02/2022 01:48

OP I've no idea how it works

I have this with Lloyds Chemists. It's great. They text me to tell me when I need more and I order it from the app and it's posted through my door. So easy.

@ufucoffee
Thank you. Did you have to notify the GP of your using Lloyds also? Or go Lloyds do that?

Plus, do you know who does the delivery - is it Royal Mail?

@penni00 Lloyds must do it in conjunction with our GP because I got a letter asking if I wanted to sign up to it. Royal Mail do the delivery.

@ufucoffee

Have you had a package too big fir your letterbox - do they leave it in a safe place outside?

I don't know. Mine fits through the letterbox.

Pinkywoo · 09/02/2022 09:12

I use Well pharmacy, it just comes through the letterbox, no signing. I'm not sure if they leave it in a safe place, but if not you can just arrange redelivery on the royal mail website, normally 2-3 days after the original delivery attempt.

@Pinkywoo
Thank you, do they come in cardboard or plastic wrapping please? Also is this service for repeat prescriptions only?

I've just switched from collecting at a chosen pharmacy to using Lloyd's direct. I've only had one delivery so far and it came in a cardboard box with my huge pots of eczema cream wrapped in brown paper. I signed up to them online and they contact the GP to make it your chosen pharmacy. I don't know if you can do it for say antibiotics for something acute rather than repeat prescriptions but it has been so much easier for me so far

Pinkywoo · 11/02/2022 07:15

@penni00 they come in cardboard, and are all prescriptions but my doctors can send non repeats to a local chemist so I can get them sooner.

fortheloveofcheesecake · 11/02/2022 07:24

I use Pharmacy2U. Really good service...I get an email when a repeat prescription is due. I click to confirm the items and then get a couple more emails confirming the doctor is approving, parcel is being posted etc. Then it all arrives through my letterbox! Excellent for someone who was always loosing track and running out of medication before!

tobee · 12/02/2022 03:53

I use Pharmacy2U. While I largely agree with the above, and it’s great for my repeat prescriptions, my gp surgery has that marked on my information rather than go to local chemist etc. When I had the need of a one off prescription (for a UTI) the prescription went by Pharmacy2U even though I alerted the gp. I’m sure this was just a mix up but it meant I had to wait nearly a week for the antibiotics. I tried to get it redirected to my local pharmacy but apparently it was not possible.

CherryMaple · 12/02/2022 04:16

I use Lloyd’s pharmacy. I’m a big fan. So easy.

FredBair · 12/02/2022 11:05

I'd love this but my GP isn't signed up to the system to do it. Rural practice where they give you the drugs at the surgery rather than a prescription to take elsewhere.

longtompot · 12/02/2022 11:33

Both my dds and my dh use Pharmacy 2U. They come in letter box sized packets and our postie just pops them through. Some are meant to be signed for but he is still doing that for us. If it's in a bigger box, he usually puts them in our black glass recycling box

penni00 · 13/02/2022 23:58

Thank you for your replies.

@tobee

This was what concerns me - I think repeat prescriptions done by Lloyds, Pharmacy 2U etc would work well for me especially if fitting through my letter box. However, it is the urgent unexpected one-off prescriptions that I would worry about. I assume my GP surgery file would read that prescriptions were being sorted by LLoyds/Pharmacy2u or whatever - so if you need a special urgent non-repeat prescription to go to a local chemist so that you can access it immediately, is it a case of pointing this out to the GP? Then hoping the GP and colleagues action this correctly. I wouldn't be happy if it went wrong, as in your case,and I had to wait a week for an urgent prescription!
