Bunionectomies and osteotomies

How painful are multiple procedures on the same foot?

It turns out, I have a vanishingly rare bone formation which would require 4 osteotomies on the lesser metatarsals, bunion surgery and an osteotomy of the proximal phalanx of the big toe.

I've heard horror stories about bunion surgeries, but my feet are increasingly painful.

How bad is it really?

@FixTheBone
I hope I'm not detailing the thread but I am a bilateral transmetatsrsal amputee

My met head fell down and I had surgery to remove. The stump held the shape for the first year but has now splayed with v sharp prominences on both ends.

My original surgeon has retired and I'm seeing someone new in a couple of weeks.

I thought my ends might be like bunions so was wondering your thoughts

I was considering bunion surgery but this thread has been informative. I get pain on and off but I don't think enough to put myself through that!

Plain bunion surgery is really not that bad. Now I am pain free on both feet and years later they are still straight. I can wear my doc martens and feel comfortable.

Advice I had was don’t until you’re in constant pain. And that’s the advice I’d give. It was painful surgery but not too bad afterwards although six weeks with a spike in place was a bit grim. walking foot on the cast, crutches, and I was mobile but relied on a crutch or stick for a few months afterwards.

30 years later the scar is minimal there’s no pain under normal circumstances but I know when it’s going to rain as the bone aches in damp weather. Less painful than it was before surgery but not pain free.

Not a common issue that I've come across, and could have numerous causes, most likely is that the metatarsals have been left quite long, but would need xrays and assesment in person to really know for sure....

Thank you. I'm seeing a new guy next week
