Help - gas after surgery!

Rosamond35 · 31/01/2022 02:38

My stomach is a mess after surgery and meds- have now moved onto constant flatulence which is stopping me from sleeping and wearing me down.

Finished opiate painkillers aay before yesterday and have abandoned lactulose. Currently taking dexamethasone and omeprazole (last dose of those tomorrow morning) and paracetamol.

Is there anything I can take? Or do I just need to wait it out?

Thank you.

Peppermint tea helped me a lot.

Peppermint tea. The hospital gave me more concentrated peppermint tablets which were good but don’t know wher you get them - they were strong!
Also activated charcoal tablets, although check if compatible with your meds.

Movement, exercise, look up yoga poses for gas and trapped wind - helps to move it along the gut.

I’ve had several abdominal surgeries and wouldn’t be without Windeze Gel Caps.

A other recommendation for peppermint tea. If it's trapped wind heat can also help and if you're mobile and can bare it going on all fours then bending your arms so your bum is in the air that can help it on the way

Following with interest as I’m suffering from horrendous flatulence post c-section and it’s been four months!

I drink lots of peppermint tea (2-3 cups every evening) but that doesn’t seem to help. I’m now making sure I eat fermented foods, have a probiotic and avoiding too many processed foods. I think it’s gradually helping.

Charcoal tablets work wonders for gas. My first laparoscopy was horrendous until a friend recommended them. When I had my second lap I was well prepared and had the charcoal right away. Best of luck, I know how painful it is Thanks

Peppermint tea or peppermint cordial.

If you can stand it lie on your front to get things moving.

Try activated charcoal tablets if you’re now finished the pain relief course

Thank you all so much! It was spinal surgery so unfortunately yoga and stretches are out, but will get looking at peppermint and charcoal. Currently waking up every 2 hours with stomach cramps and it's doing my head in!
