Hi all,
Sorry for another tooth thread, there seems to be a few at the moment!
Was in agony Friday with my impacted wisdom tooth, went to the dentist and she said I need it out but need to be referred to an oral surgeon cause it is in a tricky spot, said I could be waiting weeks!

She gave me antibiotics incase there was an infection,
The pain after the dentist was agony it came in waves every 10 mins and I was on the floor just trying to get relief, she gave me mefac for the pain also and I've been taking my own codipar( codeine and paracetamol)

Now the pain isn't as bad as the first day but it's still a bad enough pain that I just want the thing out,
What am I supposed to do if the antibiotics don't work? She couldn't be sure if there was an infection, I can't deal with the pain and the trying to guess what is causing the pain, is it an infection is it an absess?

Sorry for the ranting I'm just so fed up and don't know what to do 😢

Oh I totally sympathise with you - both my bottom wisdom teeth are impacted and about 2 years ago they flared and my god was it agony! One of the most painful things I'd ever experienced along side labour and a migraine!

Did they X-ray you? My infection on my right impacted wisdom showed on the X-ray which is why they prescribed me antibiotics - it cleared within 7 days (it burst which was awful but the pain went away almost instantly!)
If they didn't, I'd be inclined to ask for one to check.

I also used Corsodyl mouthwash, it's anti septic and that really helped sooth my gums/jaw as it gets into the flap of gum where the tooth is (I'll attach a photo of the one I used).

Also I used a numbing spray, "Chlorseptic throat spray" - I know it's for throats but it really relieved some of the gum pain at the area - you can pick it up at Tesco/Asda/boots.

Apart from that, I'd rest up, keep taking the antibiotics with some oral pain relief and see how the next few days go. I feel for you, it's agony!!xx

Thank you so much for the reply roseMAR,
Its horrible isn't it!

She did xray my tooth because she thought it could be the tooth next to the wisdom causing the pain but it wasn't, she said just incase there is a infection take these, basically nothing she can do only wait for it to be taken out 😢
I have corsydol aswel, it doesn't feel like my gums though, more inside my tooth and spreads into the jaw everytime I get a flash of pain

Will keep going with it though just incase 🥴

Poor you! Honestly, any pain to do with the mouth is horrible because it makes everything more difficult - talking, eating, drinking, sleeping etc!

When I was treated I had gone through 111, There were no emergency dentists open (it was about 2am) so I spoke to a GP who prescribed me a short prescription of co-codamol to get me through till the antibiotics did the trick (or extraction but luckily mine resolved itself).

Could you ring your GP first thing tomorrow and discuss that with them? If you're in agony today I'd say give 111 a call and do it today. They'll probably only given you a small prescription but it should get you through the worst of the pain till it either subsides or you visit your dentist again?x

Thank you!
Think that's what I'll do!

Get something a bit stronger, it's been 3 days now since I started antibiotics there definitely is a little improvement with pain,
I'm worried incase I'll have the pain till they are taken out!
I'm here in Ireland and have been on the waiting list for nearly 3 years to get all my wisdom teeth out, decided to go private, dentist said I could still be waiting awhile!😢😢

If you are struggling with the pain use Orajel Dental Gel Benzocaine 10% it’s very good at numbing the area and reliving the pain.

Is it normal to have jaw stiffness after a wisdom tooth infection?
Pain is gone but jaw is stiff, can't open widely, tooth still feels a bit delicate?
