Hello, has anybody taken ciprofloxacin ? I've started to take it to treat a uti that didn't go away with triprim or cephalexin. I've read some really bad reviews about ciprofloxacin and bow want to stop taking it......

Ciprofloxacin is a harder hitting antibiotic for when others don't work.
It was the only antibiotic that sorted my badly infected gall bladder so that I could get it finally removed.

i read bad reviews too but you always will whatever the medicine. It got me sorted and I would happily take it again if the need arose.

Hope you feel better soon.

Bad reviews?

Its not a film or a resteraunt you're picking?

It's either the right choice for your condition, or it isn't.

My six year old has just finished a course of it.

We were given a full warning leaflet with it (separately to what comes with it in the box) with some definite rules to taking it (at least one hour after anything milky and nothing milky for four hours after) and warnings about potential future joint issues.

Ultimately I followed the doctors advice but was made as aware as possible of the risks.

I have had this antibiotic for UTIs. I'm quite sure you want your UTI to clear up properly, i.e. not reacur within a couple of weeks, not clear up at all, or continue to make you utterly miserable.
You are extrememely lucky that your GP is treating you properly, ( I assume it's your GP.) Are you aware that a lot of antibiotics that are used to treat UTIs are becoming ineffective.
If you haven't already read how to prevent UTIs please do so.
Good Luck, and keep taking the tablets!

Fixthebone. probably best to keep your negative comments to yourself!

OP I am just coming (I HOPE) off the back of a stubborn AB resistant UTI. I think it's going to become a real issue in coming years. I found that oregano capsules seemed to speed up the tail end of my recovery. Have a read. It has been a really shit time in my life (went on for near three months) and you have all my sympathy. Not sure how old you are but topical estrogen is part of my Arsenal. Mend up soon.

Can I ask if you experienced groin pain with your uti?

No Im not take ciprofloxacin. I never this anti-biotic for my body.
BusterGonad · 31/01/2022 15:59

I've taken it alongside Metronidazole and that was a terrible combination! I was so spaced out. I wouldn't want to take Cipro again unless I really had to. Its a last resort antibiotic and should be respected. So long as you look out for any red flags you should be fine.
