Best tips for boosting general health (post covid and in general) please

Started feeling a bit off just before Christmas, then covid hit me like a ton of bricks on Christmas Day. Headache, nausea, aches, coughing and exhaustion for 10 days full on.

Since then I have been trying to build myself back up but even just being at work is exhausting me (and I'm working from home!!) Tried a few walks but just end up collapsed on the sofa worth nothing afterwards and aching bones.

Thought I was turning a bit of a corner this week and have now been hit with labyrinthitis and a period from hell. I'm so fed up of feeling rubbish.

I live alone and feel like I've hardly been out or anything in weeks. I know I'm run down so just looking for tips on the best ways to improve my overall health and maybe get out of this rut a little bit (once I shift the labyrinthitis - as can't do much at present!)

My diet has been really poor as I haven't been up to cooking much, so I know that's something I need to address, but all tips or advice or anything that can help me get out of this rut. Thinking maybe vitamins or supplements might help but not really sure what or where to start. Even my skin is a mess.

So any help really very much appreciated!

How's your sleep? Are you in a good routine? and do you have a daytime routine at all for meals/work/rest/bedtime etc?

YellowMoonbeam · 22/01/2022 15:08

My sleeping pattern isn't too bad, probably stay up later than I should, but overall probably ok.

My routine maybe not so great, as I've been working from home since March 2020 I have gone from being very active, walking miles a day for work, gym and dining some sport, to doing very little and being at home too much. Also with my office being at home I possibly don't take breaks in the same way I would in the office or finish at a set time etc. This is one thing I was determined to change this year and make sure I left the house even just for 10 mins every single day, but a run of illness has scuppered that for now, but this is something I am really going to try to concentrate on.

It's actually only 4 weeks since you had covid. It hits some people really hard and takes a while. I was probably 2 months before I felt better and 3 months before I was fully recovered.

So just pace yourself and rest, don't try to start a fitness regime until you are fully recovered. Walk, but only a short distance and build up slowly.

Vitamin D, especially if you've not been outside.

Hope you feel better soon.

YellowMoonbeam · 22/01/2022 16:31

Thank you. Yes I suppose in the grand scheme of things it hasn't been a long time, I'm just fed up with feeling rubbish all the time. But I will try to keep resting and build up slowly. I'm just finding being alone quite difficult, but I am also annoying myself with how moany I am feeling so I suppose I need to change my mindset!

Good shout on the vit D I will get some ordered and start taking them, thank you.

Intermittent Fasting
Vitamin D
Magnesium before bed
Zinc every other day
No obvious sugary snacks ( not obsessive about things like fruit but cake/ biscuits etc which will increase inflammation)
Movement every day

The vit D plus vit K spray from H&B is really easy to take as it's one spray a day.

@YellowMoonbeam sorry to hear that you are still feeling so run down, i am following your thread with interest, I tested positive on January 11th and today is the first day I have been out for a walk following isolation. I am shattered and my back is aching like mad again ( that was my first symptom when I tested positive) I have absolutely no appetite still so have been living off bits and bobs here and there. I am back to work on Monday and really want to build myself back up too!

YellowMoonbeam · 22/01/2022 19:14

Thanks, lots of good suggestions to try there. Will give them a go, and will check out the spray too

Sorry to hear you've been similar @cheeseybeans19 I had a very sore back and hips too and it is that pain that keeps coming back for me too when I do any walking. So I can sympathise. I also feel much more breathless than I've ever been but I suppose it just takes time.

Hopefully we'll get some tips from this thread and be back to full health soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Functional medicine is all about diet, good sleep, exercise and minimising stress. Dr Chatterjee covers this really well in his books / podcasts.

In addition I’d take a gold multivitamin, and a high dose of vitamin D & C.

Cut alcohol, reduce caffeine.
