bed bug bites look like flea bites but usually all in a row. Sort of white raised bump with red surround. They are not 'patches'
You can look for bedbugs (about 2-3mm long) along the mattress seams. Not that common to be honest, unless its a 2nd hand matress.

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 27/12/2007 16:28

what could it be then, a rash?
the matress is not so old.

Bed bugs bites appear around the chin and cheeks very much like flea bites and itch like hell. The reason they appear around the face is because they love the carbon dioxide in the breath. They are like nits they love clean and can lay dorment in nooks and crannies for months on end. They also love to live in hard new furniture as well as soft furnishings. We have had 2 lots and had to call the council in and be sprayed twice and wash EVERYTHING
The bugs themselves look bronxe in colour and quite flat. Their eggs look like grains of7 rice and are layed in a long line. We found o7urs in the seams of the fitted sheets and the seams of the edge of my ds's 7mattress.
Hope that helps.
Hope your ds is beter real soon.

You can normally spot their feces, which are black, on the mattress or on the wall.

I think it'd be pretty unlikely for a 15-month-old to have bedbugs, with nobody else in the household having them, unless you had a used mattress, or lots of transient people leaving luggage in her room or something! (I hope it's not bedbugs, I hear they're a real 'mare to get rid of!)

Sounds like maybe flea bites or excema?

I only say scabies because I was diagnosed with it ths morning after a month of a wierd rash that started on my thighs, and in children it can also affect the scalp. Can be caught through skin-to-skin contact or from places like nursery, old people's homes where people are very close together.

I think I have scabies on the brain at the moment.

Hmm. Have you changed the brand of washing powder you use? Have you been to visit (or been visited by) someone who has a pet? As this could be a mild allergic reaction or contact dermatitis.
Mind you if the bumps are not very visible and just a matter of patches of rough bumpy-feeling skin it could be a kind of cold-weather chapping that my DS seems to get. Rub in some aqueous cream, which you can get from any chemist as it is soothing and incredibly neutral ie will not do any harm, and if the rash spreads or gets worse take her to the dr
