Poo stuck in bum - embarrassing and weird

Spotsonmybot · 16/01/2022 23:30

Is this just me or does anyone else find they have to use their fingers to pull poo out? I can sit on the loo for ages and nothing comes out but I know it's there so have to stick my finger up and help it out. I don't feel like this is just constipation because the poo can be hard or soft and still sticks.
Obviously this isn't something I have ever been able to ask anyone else about!

Go to Dr. I wonder if you have an anal prolapse. But no, it's not normal. Can happen with severe constipation but not normal otherwise.

Christoncrutches · 16/01/2022 23:36

this is actually pretty common - weirdly just read an article about it v recently (if I can find it I'll post a link) and apparently it can be a sign of constipation (obvs) but also a sign of pelvic prolapse, so recommendation is to get an examination done. You can also press on the soft area between your bits (aherm) rather than put your finger up there.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 16/01/2022 23:40

Have you ever given birth and if so was it a vaginal birth? It could be a rectocele which is a sort of bowel/ pelvic prolapse I think. Sometimes needs surgery. You need to be examined by a doctor.

Queenoftheashes · 16/01/2022 23:43

Oh dear god. I have this. I haven’t given birth though.

ElEmEnOhPee · 16/01/2022 23:45

I've only had to do this once, severe constipation and had to manual extract using a glove, not the most pleasant of experiences. I would definitely see a GP if this was a regular occurrence though.

Back21970 · 16/01/2022 23:49

I have this sometimes too, think I do have a prolapse due to years of chronic constipation. Not been to the doc partly due to Covid, embarrassment and imagining there’s not a lot that could be done anyway. Bought a Kegal 8 toner and use it sporadically and when I do I think it makes a slight difference but it’s quite high maintenance to use it every day as instructed

timeforteaforyouandme · 16/01/2022 23:57

Google rectocele and go see your GP

caringcarer · 17/01/2022 00:33

Ask GP to check your thyroid function. If too low that can cause severe constipation. Make sure you eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink loads of water.

Quackpot · 17/01/2022 00:40

If it is constipation, circular lower abdominal massage helps. Clockwise then anticlockwise. If it doesn't help see your gp

thisgardenlife · 17/01/2022 00:40

Very common, often a sign of rectal prolapse / rectocele / weak pelvic floor after vaginal birth (sometimes decades later).

Glycerine suppositories are a simple way to manage this if you don't want surgery. Also do whatever it takes to avoid becoming constipated.

Add linseeds to your diet, drink plenty of water and exercise will also help to keep things moving, even if it's just walking.

MyCatStaresAtMe · 17/01/2022 00:48

Put a small amount of lube onto some tissue and gently wipe your bum. It works every time.

Kelly7889 · 17/01/2022 00:57

Glycerine suppositories. The best ones are "Fleet" but Amazon has none in stock at the moment, Ebay does.
They work instantly. You will be done and all better in five minutes. You never need to go through what you have described here!

SpidersAreShitheads · 17/01/2022 01:11

I read an article about vaginal splinting recently - basically you pop a finger into the vagina, and press on the back wall where you can feel a bulge. This moves the poo into the canal and encourages it to pass.

Might be worth trying? Apparently it's a long-standing and common technique that's very effective - here's a link but there's tons more if you have a google.

OP, you are not alone.

Never been so glad to see a mumsnet post about it.

We should both bite the bullet and book a doctors appointment Flowers

Spottybottty · 17/01/2022 01:29

Oh, and this is working quite well for the spotty butt Blush

I was the same, was struggling really badly, when I got pregnant it turned out so bad that I had to go to the a&e as there was no way of taking it out anymore, my body wanted to push it out bit I just couldn't, I was so shaky, something out of my control, my whole body was going insane, one of the worst experiences of my life,

In the hospital they have given me some infection so soften everything and then I had enema done.
Horrible .
15 pounds lost the next day.
Can you imagine?

Please go to the Doctors and sort it out Flowers

Spotsonmybot · 17/01/2022 08:03

Thank you everyone, you lot are brilliant! So good to hear I'm not alone and I feel much better knowing what it might be. Will muster up courage to see the doc.

You can use a small sized bulb enema that help you squirt a small amount of warm water into your rectum.
This helps clear without fingers or suppositories. Very easy, quick and clean.

But as others have said, you need to see your GP. It sounds like a rectocele which results in a rectal bulge meaning you can't push faeces out because it fills the bulge rather than moving along and out.

Solutions are tightening the pelvic floor with an electronic exerciser (from the colorectal nurse), and strangely and counterintuitively eating less fibre. This is so there is a mass that can be pushed out rather than softer faeces that fills the space.

Emily29 · 17/01/2022 20:16

Try raising your feet with a stall, and definitely make sure you're doing pelvic floor exercises too. Hope it gets better!

Thank you @Emily29 @beautifullymad great advice, and less fibre makes sense!

I kind of get this but not had to resort to fingers. Stand up and have a wiggle. Sit back down and see if it works??

Sandycrocs · 27/01/2024 23:29

Take some movicol to soften whats in the colon and a Glycerin Suppositories to release the hard stuff in your rectum.
