I don't normally drink much but I'm 5 months pg and getting carpel tunnel syndrome already (didn't start till 7mo last time). And apparently its partly caused by fluid retention, and drinking more water helps, wierdly enough. I think if you don't drink enough your body thinks there's a drought and hangs onto it all or something.

Anyway, have started filling a 2-litre bottle with tap water every morning, and making sure I've drunk it all by evening. Some plain, some with squash in. But I don't use it make my tea! Anyway, I feel better and my hands are hurting less. Can't be totally sure as I now have wrist splints to wear at night as well - but I saw some improvement before I got them.

FWIW I got my 'tea and coffee count' information from the British Dietitics Assocation who are properly qualified health professionals.

Clearly consuming lots of tea or coffee may be bad for you due to caffeine/tannin content. But tea and coffee can also be beneficial in moderation - tea contains flavanoids which are good for you. It's like the old-fashioned view that fat = bad, when it turns out that some types of fat are actually very important for brain and heart function.

There's still a lot that isn't known about the role of micronutrients like flavanoids, interesting area of research, but it does seem the general picture is that nutrients consumed in your diet can do a whole lot more for you than supplements.
