Vitamin D deficiency symptoms

I'm just wondering what your symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency were? And whether they resolved after taking supplements? I've recently started having horrible sore, achy knees and a weak, painful lower back. And thinking could it be indicative of a vitamin D deficiency.

Mine were absolute overwhelming exhaustion and low mood, it was a few years ago now so I don't remember body aches but I do remember feeling absolutely awful. And yes, vit D supplements did help, I still take them now - if I stop for any reason (laziness!!) after a while I can feel the symptoms start to come back

Just bumping and placemarking..

Mine was extreme exhaustion, I couldn’t walk more than 100m without a rest. I was always in bed and the change when I started a high strength supplement was so rapid. My level was 7 when diagnosed and rose well to well over 50.

Tiredness, dizzy spells and headaches

Have your B12 and folate checked too.

@MrsPnut what did you take and over what period of time ?
I had some Vitamin D drops, just wondering if I should just take more drops every day or buy something that is actually higher strength.

I'd been taking vitamin d since the first lockdown because I'd read that it was good for immunity. I've recently been feeling a bit low and anxious and had been getting headaches (very unusual for me- I hardly ever get headaches) aand sleeping badly. I was blaming it on perimenopause, but then realised I'd not been remembering to take my vit d for ages (months, possibly). Started taking them again and within a week my mood is much better, I'm sleeping better and the headaches have gone!

Apparently most people in the UK are deficient in vitamin d because we don't get enough strong sunlight for most of the year. I guess by the end of winter we're really low. I live in Cumbria, so probably even worse here!

@Legday I use this one www.amazon.co.uk/Better-You-DLux4000-Supplement-Peppermint/dp/B08G57MJW9?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

When I first started I had 10000iu for a month and then switched to this one. My ;levels had risen to 50 in just a month and I felt so much better.

Legday · 07/03/2022 10:39

Thanks @MrsPnut will give it a go.

My DS (15) has a vit D deficiency. I suspected as much but his blood test came back at the weekend and its 25nmol/L. He is constantly fatigued and has headaches most days. He's been told to take 3000-6000UI daily for three months, then drop it down to 1000-4000. I'm praying that this is the reason because it means we can fix the problem as he's been missing a lot of school.
