Urinary tract inflammation - radical diet overhaul needed

Hoping to get some advice, been throughly told off today but a urologist as I have been having persistent pain etc and its all due to my bad diet :( smoking, fizzy drinks etc have led to my urinary tract being inflamed and irritated and its making my body feel like its fighting in an infection. this has been going on for a while but due to covid my referral took a long time.

So first things first:

  1. quit smoking - been re referred to smoking cessation
  2. quite drinking red bull - bad I have it daily helps me feel calm due to MH
  3. More varied diet.

Does anyone have any tips to help with this change in lifestyle? I am not a foodie and don't find joy in cooking so its not easy for me.
Also wondering if theres anything I can do immediately to help my body settle and soothe. Maybe some drinks that help cleanse?

thanks in advance Blush

Maybe some nice hot soup?
Exercise is good for mental health and health generally. Do you need to lose weight or is it just the inflammation, if that’s not a rude question.
I hope it was a kind and gentle telling off.
Good luck!

not rude at all, slight weight loss would be helpful but not necessary if you see what I mean, dr didnt mention that

I do run but been told to rest abit as my body is trying to fight for me!

Thanks for replying soup is a good idea

Please look into embedded infection. The nhs hasn’t changed the way they look for urine infections for over 50years, I’ve been going round and round being told I have IC by urologists for a few years now x

Try going sugar free for a month. If you make that change you will definitely see a massive improvement in the UTI. Think of the sugar as fuel for the infection.

If you can, cut out not just sweets and cakes but also products that have high sugar (some ‘healthy lookkng’ breakfast cereals and breads have surprisingly high added sugar on the ingredients list).

Cutting out alcohol for a while woukd also help you massively. Basically anything that converts quickly to sugar…

Tbh, OP, it's a challenge in itself to pack in smoking, let alone give up red bull / energy drinks at the same time. You are doing amazingly well to face that all head on.

So I'd definitely keep the dietary changes as simple and 'happy' as possible. Soup's a great shout - you can buy ready-made healthy ones without all the added salt and sugar these days, but it really is easy to make with stock cubes and chopped vegetables, tomatoes, chicken pieces, herbs, peas etc. I've also started eating pickles (like gherkins, beetroot) as snacks instead of crap, sometimes with kefir (it's like yogurt) to help my gut biome.

Thanks all, its not a UTI that i've been having just urgency, needing to pee but nothing etc and abdominal pain. My body shows no infection....should I push more?

Hoping i can manage all the changes, its been a shock tbh so hopefully that will help

Unfortunately there’s only one nhs run clinic that will diagnose a embedded infection, a lot of ladies have to go private. I have very similar symptoms there are literally thousands of ladies on Facebook struggling with this it’s so upsetting.

As you don’t need to lose weight, you might console yourself with cream and butter and olive oil. I agree you should cut out sugar and refined carbs and try not to snack, but things like creamy soups and sauces and garlic mushrooms feel a bit indulgent. Cook do some good frozen ready meals.
