Hi guys,

Since last week my legs and feet have been playing up. When I'm not active I have a fuzzy feeling in my feet and pins and needles. When I'm walking and active then they're fine but as soon as I sit still it starts. My doctor thinks I have injured my Achilles' tendon but I think it could be something else and am starting to worry. Has anybody experienced anything similar??

Is it both feet?

Surely if your doctor says Achilles, then they know better than people on mumsnet? What has the doctor recommended? Perhaps a physio visit could also be useful?

Yes both feet.

Obviously i understand I should listen to the doctor but i wanted to see if anybody else had experienced anything similar that's all? The doctor has suggested painkillers and rest

Look up peripheral neuropathy

MargaretThursday · 11/01/2022 17:57

Seems odd that you have it in both feel if you've injured an Achilles' tendon. Wouldn't that mean you have to injure both, which seems unlikely to me?

Where are the pins and needles, or is it generalised? I get odd pins and needles in my 3rd and 4th toe, more on one side but occasionally both. I think it's a circulation issue, but haven't had it checked out, so I may be wrong.

Do you have lower back issues or an old injury to lower spine? Slipped discs?
Are you diabetic?

If only happens when sat down you could be compressing nerves that go from spine to feet.

Whatever it is I would go back to the GP.

Definitely ask the GP about peripheral neuropathy. I have it, though mine is damage post chemotherapy. It feels like my feet are fizzing and starts when I relax in the evening. Sounds similar to what you describe though.

I went back to the doctors and because I have pain around the Achilles' tendon they think I have injured it and it's pressing on a nerve.

Both Achilles’ tendons?

MagratsDanglyCharms21 · 11/01/2022 21:37

If it's both feet then unlikely to be tendonitis as others have said. Ask GP if you can have bloods checked to rule out B12 deficiency or diabetes as starting point. If unhelpful, ask for referral to NHS Podiatry Dept for further investigation.

courtney251 · 11/01/2022 22:23

Yes he said both Achilles' tendon are injured and that is causing the tingling. I feel like I'm wasting their time if I contact them again.

Ask for referral to physio. They will reassess, and IF it is both (!) achilles tendons then rehab from physio would be your best option. But if it isn't they'll rule it out as cause ASAP. Good luck xx
