Blood tests results help please

Hi a few days before Xmas I noticed something on my neck. I think it’s a swollen lymph node, however it’s not a pea sized lump. It’s like a long shape under my skinI can’t really explain it. I don’t think it’s always been there. But anyway I freaked out and went to doctors, doc couldn’t feel anything. If I move my head in certain ways it disappears. Anyway he said he’d book me in for a blood test to rule out anything nasty as I told him I was a worrier.

I had the blood test on xmas eve, a couple of weeks before that I has covid. Then over Xmas I developed a cough / cold / headachey type thing.

Fast forward to yesterday I got my blood test results ( I rang them) and everything was okay apart from my esr levels were raised slightly ( I don’t no the exact figure) and my full blood count was also slightly raised.

Receptionist said doc has asked for repeat bloods in four weeks times. I am now shItting myself that I have something wrong with me. I know the levels would be high if it was something sinister but I still can’t help but worry myself to bits.

I know esr and full blood count levels can be raised slightly by an infection Etc … I did have covid and I did have a cold so I’m hoping that’s why they are raised.

But I’m now gonna worry for the next month and I hate it

Anyone else experienced similar ? Hopefully someone can put my mind at rest.

Thanks in advance x

@MummyNWife my test is on Monday. Not sure if more worried about the test or waiting for the results! Hope this thread has reassured you x

My ESR is always high due to autoimmune problem. Lots of things can raise ESR. Yours could be high due to the cold/cough you had (my GP told me this as I'd had a horrid virus prior to autoimmune syndrome diagnosed) BUT you must get it followed up incase it is something more sinister. Good luck xx

CherryRipe1 · 06/01/2022 18:32

Sorry, didn't RTFT. As your GP isn't overly concerned and wants follow ups in 4 weeks I would not worry too much, it's being monitored.

Full blood count can’t be described as raised as it’s the umbrella for a lot of different tests - hb, platelets, white blood cells, neutrophils and about 10 more

Hi The receptionist told me my full blood count was slightly high. Confused now.

She probably meant your white cell count was slightly raised which is part of a full blood count and may be up if you'd had a recent infection. Honestly blood results are often outside parameters, just go for a recheck and take it from there. Good luck.

Yes i think your right, she said it might due to infection/being poorly. Yes fingers crossed they are ok when i have them re done xx

So I found out my platelet count on my last blood test one month ago was 456. It should be 400 or under. The blood test I had last march my levels were 428. I had my repeat blood test a few days ago, waiting for the results. Hopefully it's below 456.

Help.

I am freaking out. Just before xmas i felt something in my neck swollen lymph node or something. Had blood tests, slighty raised esr levels and full blood count.

Just had another one done and it says abnormal

Serum C reactive protein level 12 mg/L

This was 11 mg in Dec.

When i good 12mg it comes up with cancer of course, so now i am absolutely bricking it, ive gone all hot and sweaty. Can anyone help !!

Please try not to freak out. Didn't you say you'd had COVID? Assume that's why it's a little elevated.

MummyNWife · 06/02/2022 12:35

Yes i had covid just before xmas, the last blood test i had after covid was on the 24th dec and my crp level was 11..... i then had it repeated last week and its now 12 - i suffer really bad with healthy anxiety.

@MummyNWife the normal level of platelets has fairly recently been changed to 400 when it used to be 450. I’ve had similar readings to yours and my GP said if they were over 500 I would be referred to the Haematology dept. Under that it’s still considered high normal. I can understand your anxiety as I’m the same but unfortunately google always brings up the possibility of cancer no matter what you search!

@MummyNWife You said 456 last month, even last year 428 so it’s probably normal for you, not sure you have more recent results. As previously normal was up to 450 (and still is for some labs) I guess it wasn’t even mentioned before. If the GP felt you needed further tests they would see you quickly. Agree about the HA which I’ve had most of my life! x

@MummyNWife I now don’t even want to know the numbers for my test results, as I google and worry even if they are just over or under! I now go by what the GP said, if they say no further action I leave it at that. x

MummyNWife · 06/02/2022 13:46

Yes thats definitely the best way to be, google can be scary. thank you x
