Can sinus pain cause jaw pain? Can I take paracetamol & sudafed?

Had a cold 3 weeks ago which dragged on. Since about Tuesday been having headaches especially around cheekbones and above eyes - thought it might be sinuses blocked. Last couple of days my top jaw has been aching like mad, especially on the right and goes along to my ear. Is this sinus too? My teeth don't hurt - hate seeing the dentist so I'm getting myself all paranoid that it's my teeth, but can't see how it could be as teeth aren't sensitive.

This morning I've taken a Sudafed 12 hour relief ... not keen on these as they make me slightly odd - thought there was a frog in my bedroom the other day when I took one! Can I take paracetamol too? I'm assuming I can as paracetamol is not listed in the ingredients. The pain hasn't eased much and I'm in a foul mood.

I think it can yes. I went to the docs with similar pains although not as severe and she got me to grit my teeth and asked if I had any jaw pain or pain in my cheekbones.

I am not sure about the paracetamol and sudafed, but if you have a sinus infection you will need AB's.

My gp actually said that I don't have an infection at the mo, but has given me a prescritption for AB's anyway incase it worsens over xmas.

omg yes it can and severe toothache!!! I have cronic sinitus and get the most rotton toothand jaw pain with it. you need to get the sinus infection soughted so it doesn't continue or get worse.

I take cuprofen and sopladol for mine now its that bad.

I had terrible pain my jaw and cheekbones forehead when I had sinusitis. My GP said it often goes within a few days without AB's and mine did but I had loads of ibuprofen and paracetomol and rest. Bit hard to rest this time of year though, you might be better getting them just in case.

Try inhaling steam-my GP recommends this to give relief from sinusitis. You may well need ABs though.

HI I had this on and off for 3 weeks too.

In the end i went to the gp, who reluctantly gave me anit's, but I said, look I am not having this over xmas. I'd get to gp if you can.

Sudefed i took already had paracetamol in it, but you must have the other one?

I didn't find it very good tbh.

I think the other one like it is supposed to be better? Sinutab thats it.

My dad siad so any how altho i never got round to taking it.

Keep blowing, gently, um, lots of water, ibuprophen might help alongside the paracetamol?

its rotten i know.x

PirateInaPeartree · 23/12/2007 10:27

yeah i cant be totally sure the anit's helped,as there wasn't any suire way to tell i had an infection in the sinuses, rather than it being blocked.

Yet to add, i did have the pain u describe, and still do , i had tender bits either side of nose too where it felt like i'd been punched.

very odd.

Ibuprofen was the only thing that stopped me wanting to pull my face off. Also, steam didn't help me at all, made it much much worse. Maybe the heat exacerbated the swelling, I don't know.

Thanks for the replies. Reassured that I don't need a dentist! Feeling a bit spaced out thanks to sudafed and it seems to have eased pain - discovered it has similar ingredient to night nurse which causes me to hallucinate big time!! Just been out & stocked up on paracetamol & ibuprofen. I could try gp in the morning. As a family we hardly ever go to gp, but always seem to end up there on Christmas Eve.

the bug mioght be spacing you out tho, i was literally in bed for 5 days i was so dizzy.

You're probably feeling better by now, but just to say that acute jaw pain can also (weirdly) be an inner ear infection (just in case it happens again), though the cheekbone pain sounds more like your sinuses.
