Feel sleepy after every meal

No matter what I eat I feel so sleepy after. I'm overweight bmi of 29. I'm trying to eat whole foods and focus on my health however I've noticed over the last few months that no matter what I eat I'm so sleepy after .

This morning I had a wholemeal bagel topped with pumpkin seed butter, banana and honey and I'm now laying curled up on the sofa with heavy eyes.

I know that bananas can aid in sleepiness but this happens no matter what I eat now.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it just to do with my weight?

Thanks

That’s a lot of carbohydrates in one meal-the bagel, the banana and the honey. Does the same happen if you have a higher protein/lower carb meal? The bagel with some scrambled egg and salmon, or bacon and egg? Or skip the bagel entirely and have some egg with grilled mushroom and bacon?

I found I used to feel very tired after a carb heavy meal. I believe it’s to do with the quick rise in glucose, followed by insulin release to rectify the glucose increase, followed by a slump in blood glucose levels.

Try having an omelette tomorrow morning and see if the same thing happens.

Check your blood sugar op. You can buy a kit for testing it.

I get that, I used to put it down to getting up early, but my last blood test showed borderline diabetic, so perhaps that’s it. Or it could be thyroid related. You could always mention it to the GP.

I get this - after extensive Googling the closest thing I can find to my symptoms is IPS - idiopathic postprandial syndrome. Cause is unknown (hence ideopathic) - but I find it eases if I avoid carbs as much as possible.
