Can you help me identify ds2's rash?

Ds2 (16 months) has an odd rash in his nappy area. It started just above his willy with a couple of small bumpy spots, but grew into a larger patch which is red and raised, the spots are all clusutered together. He also has a small patch on his inner thigh (still where his nappy is) which is in a ring shape (ringworm????) and another on his tummy (again under his nappy). He also has a few scattered spots fairly close by. He is generally a bit off colour - he has a had cold followed by tummy bug, so is a bit run down anyway.

It could be ringworm, is it itchy? You will know eventually because you will probably get it too! Very contagious.
Get some Daktarin from the chemists if you notice a red patch starting anywhere on yourself, use separate towels and clothing for him for now, that is the advice if it is fungal/ringworm type thing.
It might be an allergy, a reaction to washing powder, to nappies, or even something like eczema.

...also possibly thrush?

Wallace · 22/12/2007 20:01

Thanks. Isn't ringworm really rare these days?

No white patches, could it still be thrush?

I will be taking him to GP after Christmas if the rash hasn't gone.

can you not get an apt before xmas, if you say its for a 16mo? it would be horrid to have it all over crimbo esp if it gets worse and uncomfortable for him.

could be all sorts of things btw

Sounds like a bit of excema - understandable in winter with central heating on and if he's a bit run down from a cold. Get it checked out with GP first and then a good baby lotion/cream/balm based on vegetable oils is best to keep it under control and prevent the skin drying out too much and cracking. Don't oversoap at bathtime - get a babywash without sodium lauryl sulphate in (strips oils from the skin making it dry). Apply lotion after bath and a couple of times during the day also, as needed. Do see GP first tho x

E45 do an itch relief cream which my ds finds soothing on sim sounding rashes. his willy has had a rash more often than not in his short life, poor little scrot.

Thanks. Will have a look at that site.

Have been puttin dd's epaderm on it, and it isn't as angry looking (apart from the one on his tummy where the nappy is rubbing) I think the babywipes were irritating it so I am just using warm water.

If still bad on Monday I prop could get an appt with GP.

hi wallace
just signed on to ask advice for something and saw your post. my ds3 who's 10mths has bad eczema at the moment.. or so i thought! the thing that you think your little one might have from the link you posted looks exactly like what my little one has and it's pretty bad at the moment, groin and underarms covered plus back, sides and parts of tummy. it would be fantastic if it is this and it will clear up soon! i guess if it is no point in going to the doc..... again.

Wallace · 27/12/2007 20:46

qsack - how is your ds now?

GP thinks it might be ringworm, but isn't sure. I don't think it is.
