Weird feeling after cut finger

So this feels quite trivial whilst we are in the middle of a pandemic but....A day or two after Xmas day (totally lost track of the days between Xmas and new year like most people!) I cut my finger, quite a deep cut and bled a fair bit, but nothing that made me too concerned. But now nearly a week later my finger is quite numb ( but I can still wiggle it etc if that makes sense, almost like that feeling when your arm goes to sleep if you've been lying on it)

Today I've noticed the feeling is getting worse and seems to be going up my hand / arm now, and I've been getting a shooting pain if I've used my hand to do anything (like pushing my DS on the swing in the park) the cut itself looks like it's pretty much healed up, but I'm getting a bit concerned about this sensation I've got in my finger / hand / arm

I'm going to call my dr tomorrow, but any ideas what it could be? I've tried to google but nothing really matches up with my symptoms

It sounds as though you've damaged a nerve.

I cut my finger deeply last March - it healed fine and I can move it normally but its still numb on that side - I assume I damaged a nerve. If its causing other pains best to get it checked.

In my job cuts are pretty commonplace.

You probably damaged a nerve and the pain is the healing process. As long as there isn't any redness and heat around the area which suggests it's gone septic then I wouldn't worry too much.

It’s just nerve damage - I nearly sliced the top of my index finger off last year and it was numb for about a month. I couldn’t go climbing and found it really hard to touch type. A doctor friend reminded me that your fingers have some of the most complex nerve systems - so it’ll take time to fix. When you think about it, your fingers are one of the most sensitive parts of your body.

Thank you all, that's set my anxiety at ease Smile

Nerve damage - can take a while to heal and may be accompanied by a strange burning or tingling in the next week or so but nothing serious. Always consult your GP if it does not improve or becomes painful.

You've definitely damaged nerves. I had a partially amputated fingertip earlier this year through a dog bite and although it was successfully sewn back on I have no feeling in the tip of my finger at all. You might find it will gradually get better, mine was a severe injury!
