Well I think it's food poisoning. About 8pm this evening I started feeling really sickly, about 2 hours later not stopped being sick and diarrhoea. Bones are now aching, headache, upper back ache. Dc and DH are fast asleep so I'm currently in a hot bath as it seems to help a little.
I've just done a lateral flow and that negative but had covid 3 weeks ago and was really mild.
Is good poisoning really this bad and how long will it last Sad

You need to wake your DP try to suck a sweet if you have one (something to raise your blood sugar).

As others have said, food poisoning does not always hit fast. Salmonella for example can take up to 3 days to incubate.

Sympathies op - hope you feel better soon. Thanks

Oh man, I know exactly how you feel you poor thing! My husband and I had food poisoning from a well known pizza chain at the start of the pandemic. Ours started off with the same symptoms as you and we were both so unwell for about 10 days, fevers up to 39C etc. Thought it could've been covid at first but then the D and V (more D than V!) started 🤢 wishing you a speedy recovery

@Wallywobbles

Food poisoning hits very fast. Like within the hour. Very unlikely to be from food from yesterday.
Not always. Campylobacter can take a while to breed. And god is it grim. Think incessant vomiting, black diarrhoea, fever, aches and pains. Mine lasted 3 weeks.

I feel for you OP, food poisoning is beyond brutal.

Last time I had it was in Ibiza, two days before we were due to fly home. Every part of my body hurt. Didn't help it was stupidly hot there too.

Never did have the seafood again!!

Thank you everyone for replying. I must have fell asleep about 6am. I feel a bit better m, not sick anymore but feel weak and stomach cramps. Hopefully only a 24 hour thing.

Hi @backtoworktomorrow81, it’s good to hear that you are feeling a bit better.

Yes, Noro’ can make you bones ache etc as it is a viral infection. Hopefully that achy phase has passed.

As others have mentioned, light bland foods for few days, stay off dairy particularly if you are struggling to keep anything down. Get plenty of rest, sip thin liquids, nibble dry toast if you must. Allow the D&V to pass for several days to avoid infecting others.

Should in a day or so, you crave a fry-up, I’d call that the not-so green shoots of recovery.

Not necessarily. It depends on the type of food poisoning. I have had it three times. The first time I felt more ill than I have ever been before or since.

Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2022 17:49

I had this a couple of years ago.
I threw up on and off for about 8 hours. I just had to lie on a towel on the bathroom floor as it was coming out of both ends (sorry TMI)
I felt ill and couldn’t eat properly for about 2 weeks and was very weak. I think it was almost a month before I was back to normal.
It was absolutely awful and I have never felt the same about chicken since, you have my every sympathy OP and I hope you recover much quicker than I did

Kdubs1981 · 04/01/2022 18:03

More likely to be norovirus than food poisoning. And yes, it's brutal. Ok sorry

Kdubs1981 · 04/01/2022 18:03

Sorry that should have been

I'm sorry

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 04/01/2022 18:30

Food poisoning is horrific. The first time (from bad mussels) I actually thought I might die.
Noro also. Trying to care for toddler who has recovered whilst still in the throws of it (pun unintended but appropriate) was the worst.
Strangely, I have an allergic reaction to Quorn that is similar to both, though doesn't last as long!

OP, I hope you're on the mend soon!

Food poisoning from Oysters in Barbados in 2010. I have never been as ill in my life. DH was ill for 3/4 days. I had Diarrhoea and was throwing up for 10 days.
Luckily the worst was over by the time we flew home. I went to my GP when we got back and she sent off a stool sample. She did say that she didn't expect it to show anything as it'd probably be out of my system. She was right.
We went back to Barbados a few times after that and I stayed well away from any raw seafood/fish.

Thank you for all your messages.

I am starting to feel better but I'd not felt that poorly in a long time.

What I have now though is a feeling like something is stuck in my throat, constantly there though, but no pain or anything when swallowing or eating. Could this be from the sickness
