Hernia repair surgery

Hello,

I'm due to have an umbilical hernia repaired soon and I'm getting really nervous. I have three young children so am constantly lifting, bending, breastfeeding my baby (who rests on my tummy), being climbed on etc.

Has anyone had a hernia repaired and can give me an idea of what to expect please?

The consultant was a man of few words so I feel in the dark about it really.

Thanks in advance

Hi. I’ve had this done under exact same circumstances as yours.
I went in in the morning and was home by teatime. Wasn't that sore afterwards(took paracetamol once I think). Just felt groggy for a few days due to the anaesthetic

Awaiting an appointment for one.
Spoke to the nurse then Doctor 1 phone call & scan then Doctor 2 over the phone.
I have to make an appointment but I would like to speak to my own GP first.
Can you get someone to come and help you? I had a gall stone op when Child 4 was 7 months and still breast feeding. I ended up staying in longer than expected but DH was allowed to bring DD in. Only afternoon visiting but he was allowed to bring her at night too. I managed to continue once I was home and my supply soon replenished. Will your baby take a bottle? Just in case you have to stay overnight.
I still think I have another hernia but they couldn’t find it when I was scanned. I can sometimes feel it and it is low on my right side. Did you get an option with anaesthetic ?
Could you ring the Surgery and speak to your GP or one of the nurses. Someone who knows you.
