Pain in foot months after puncture wound

I stood on a rusty nail in August. Got antibiotics, tetanus booster and all seemed fine.

It's healed and there's nothing to see at all but it is now painful, it's a very localised, burning sensation. It used to only be if I walked a lot but it seems to be there all the time now.

No signs of infection or redness at all. What could it possibly be?

I could have posted this except for the rusty part. No answers am afraid. I stood on a metal part of a toy car also in August. Hurt like hell at the time but got better and now not good again. Have taken a photo of the sole of my foot and it still looks like a puncture wound with a bruise.

@Wrinklyeyes I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm quite down about it because I can't go for long walks which is my favourite way to destress.

I've got an appointment for an ultrasound but I've no idea what that will show as if there was anything retained it would be infected

Foot specialist here, sounds like you have quite a bit of nerve damage, which can take months to repair if ever. Sorry i cant be more help.

Sunnycloudymorning · 01/01/2022 15:14

@WowIlikereallyhateyou that's what I thought. Thank you so much for posting.

If I don't rest it (almost impossible) and learn to manage the pain will that make it worse, or no different?

And if I ask for a referral, or see someone privately, who exactly would I be asking to see?

Trauma and orthopaedic consultant who specialises in feet.

Sunny, if it is nerve related then keeping things moving is a good idea. You would generally rest for swelling, sprains etc. It really depends on what exactly the issue is, to who you need to see. Obvs at the moment i am guessing given the bit of info i have.

DS did this at uni, his foot was black and blue and the puncture was awful. Despite my advice he never saw a doctor until a year later when he still had pain. At that point he had an ultrasound which just showed soft tissue damage.
