Dimple/Indentation on neck- Pic attached

Hi just noticed today there seems to be a small indentation almost like a dimple at the bottom of my neck/above collarbone on the right side. The indent also seems to be protruding upwards in a straight line. It is more prominent when I turn my head towards the left but is still there when I’m standing normally. I have never noticed this before so it must be something new and my first instinct is to worry.

I can’t call my GP until the morning so have attached this pic in the hope that someone might have a better idea than I do as to what this could be.

Other recent health issues include:

Feeling a blocked feeling in middle of my chest along with some chest tingling. Went to A&E and all tests came back clear.

Noticed a new small mole on the right hand side of my face, I have been meaning to speak to GP about this too but haven’t because of chest pains taking precedence and some other issues with DC2.

I don’t know if any of this could be related to my neck.

Any insights appreciated.

Hi OP, I have health anxiety so didn't want to read and run as I know how it can feel.

When you're able, make an appointment with your GP as it will put your mind at rest, but personally I think it's linked to the other indentation further down where your collarbone is

FinallyHere · 31/12/2021 23:43

Absolutely right to get a medical opinion that you trust to set your mind at rest. It doesn't look like anything to me but I know how I once there is a doubt in your mind, it will take something to set your mind at rest.

How often do you find something like this that gives rise to concerns? Do you find that you are often anxious in this way. If it does concern you, It's really worth raising that separately with a GP, there are lots of things they can do to help. All the best.

Thank you very much for your replies. I totally forgot yesterday was NYE so appreciate you taking the time to post. I couldn’t get through to GP today so will have to try again on Monday.

To be honest I am an anxious person and have been since I was young. I’m usually worried about something. It’s not always health related, it can be anything and everything else. When I went to A&E a few months ago they said the chest pains could be anxiety related too or some gastro problem. I do find that every couple of months there is something major that causes me to worry, sometimes to do with my health, other times it could be to do with family (I have 2 young DC) or just a general life event. People would say that I am quite a pessimistic person and I do find myself always thinking ‘What if?’ and it’s always something negative. I never really thought I could speak about this to my GP just thought they would fob me off.

monday is the bank holiday so doubt you will get thr to them then tuesdays your day but dont expect it to be a quick call with nearly 2 weeks off there will be a lot wanting to get thr aswell. if you could it may even be worth just dropping a note or going to the surgery to make the appt
MothersJumpers · 01/01/2022 12:08

@takenforgrantednana Oh goodness thanks for the reminder about the bank holiday! I don’t know where my head is at these days, I totally forgot. Yeah good idea I may have to camp outside the surgery!

Our surgery absolutely will not let you have a face to face appointment without a phone appointment first. Phone appointments seem to be on average a week's wait based on my experience. You are not allowed inside the surgery without an appointment. Absolutely crazy. I hope your surgery is more helpful. It doesn't look like anything worrying tbh but, as a fellow health anxiety sufferer, I know you won't rest until it's been checked. Good luck x

Hi there!! I know this is an old post but this is the first time I’ve seen a picture of the exact same thing that I have as far as the little dent in your neck… I’m just wondering what you ever found out about it. Hope it was nothing serious and hope to hear back from you. Thank you so much!!

Hins · 12/09/2022 21:26

Hi @Vbroady08 hope you’re well. I got this checked out by my GP who said it wasn’t concerning and it’s probably something I’ve always had but only just noticed it whilst looking in the mirror, etc. It is still there but thank God not painful or anything like that. Hope this helps.

Am using a different username since this post too.

with the usual caveats about interpreting pictures that show next to nothing, I'd put money on the OP's photo being their (completely normal) external jugular vein. Lying down flat will probably make the dimple/sunken appearance fill-out again.

Hi sorry to hear about the worrying. I definitely know how that feels!

I got this checked out by the GP and she didn’t seem concerned, said it seems to be a natural indentation according to how I move my neck/face. So it doesn’t really worry me any more- my health anxiety is currently focused on another part of the body!

Hope this helps.
