Dd1 is 24 and for the past approx 6 months has been having these episodes where she suddenly feels very hot and sweaty and then she is violently sick.

Once she's been sick and cooled down she is fine. No headache and no pattern tnat we can identify. They can happen twice a week or she can go weeks being ok.
It can happen anywhere at any time of day.

Any ideas ? She knows she needs to see a GP but ours are crap at seeing anyone at the mo.

Ps def not pregnant

Could still be something hormonal.
Overheating makes me vomit, so would look at overheating (like a hot flush) as the core symptom.

Thepowerofthelook · 01/01/2022 00:35

Anxiety or other mh conditions, hormonal, cyclical vomiting, overheating?

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 01/01/2022 00:46

Cyclical vomiting syndrome?

Some other type of migraine?

RegretfulRufus · 01/01/2022 00:54

Could it be thyroid related? I say this because I have hypothyroidism and one thing is I was getting was sudden vomiting especially when i begin a meal or eat salty food. Sudden nausea and hot. Then I’m sick and absolutely fine. Also I think the thyroid regulates blood sugars and I also get sudden sweaty shaky episodes if meds need tweaking .

immersivereader · 01/01/2022 00:58

Is she taking medication?

polkadotllama · 01/01/2022 01:04

This happens to me if I overheat.
A trick a nurse told me was to run my pulse points on my wrists under cool water as soon as I get that feeling I'm going to be sick because it instantly cools you down. It's worked for me so far.

TheOriginalNutty · 01/01/2022 10:47

Sorry for not replying, the day ran away with me.

Dd does indeed have other conditions and takes meds. She takes Venlafaxine for depression, gabapentin for chronic back pain (she's had spinal fusion), has endometriosis and joint hypermobility (query eds). Oh and she's on the pill.

She's been on these meds for a while though, way before this started.
I will tell her the tip about cold water and her wrists though. Hopefully that will help.

It is definitely like she suddenly overheats

Did she have covid this year op? My eldest dd had a long spell of random vomiting after having covid in June, thankfully it's wearing off now.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/01/2022 10:53

If your DD hasn't been able to get a GP appointment in 6 months then the practice needs reporting. But I suspect she isn't really trying. She needs a doctor to diagnose her, not MN. It could be something simple, it could be serious but you're not going to work that out on here.

There a quite a few conditions that run alongside EDS so could be linked there maybe. Dysautonomia is difficulty maintaining temperature that I think can be linked to EDS. Has she see rheumatology to rule it in or out?
