Anything new to add to my supplements? Doing an order and wondered if there is anything I should add

I'm run down post covid and wondering if there is anything useful to add on current supplements; I'll do proper research to any suggestions

I have bowel damage and intolerances so I'm careful about adding new things plus I have cfs/fm and hypermobility. More recently I'm dealing with menopause/HRT and insomnia

I take
B12, D, K, Magnesium, Zinc, methylfolate, iron and ubiquinol (sp?)

Someone suggested some spice for joints but I cant remember what/who?

Turmeric? Although not sure I worked for me.

KatyMac · 31/12/2021 10:12

I'll have a look

B12, D, Zinc,Iron and foliate are all as a result of blood test deficiencies the others are companion vitamins (Magnesium, K ) changing the foliate to methyl was a great suggestion by someone and the ubiquinol has been great

Possibly adding rosehip and tumeric

I have cfs/me and hypermobility - it’s given me energy for the first time in ages. Also worth looking into creatine, d-ribose, pqq, glutathione. It’s all about mitochondria.

backoncmoretime · 03/01/2022 03:13

Turmeric. Not sure if it helped me but I take it anyway and it's only cheap to buy.

As @Phrenologistsfinger says, I've just started taking B1 as a friend recommended. Only take for a couple of days so too soon to say it I've noticed.

LondonGrimmer · 03/01/2022 17:23

Watching with interest as also recovering from Covid and struggle with very low energy. Already take iron due to "borderline" anaemia (it's low but the GP doesn't want to know), B12 spray and high dose Vitamin D. May look into B1 then...

KatyMac · 03/01/2022 17:37

I've found B12 and D a life changer tbh long before I even had covid

Yeah I've been taking them for about a year. Which B12 do you take? I have the Better You daily oral spray which I bought from Amazon. Not sure if it's a good one or not.

I take Healthspan Iron Care tablets as they were recommended by a blood donation nurse last time I was turned away for being too low. They have B vits in them too.

Then also from Amazon I take Incite 4,000iu Vitamin D.

Still always shattered tho and that was before Covid Sad had full bloods done last month and all normal apparently.

Unless you have an actual deficiency you'll just be paying to wee out excess levels of vitamins filtered by your kidneys.

Turmeric is great for pain..I use this

OldaRailer · 03/01/2022 18:19

Worth pointing out NHS do advise us all to take a vitamin D supplement in winter and for some people to do so year round.

LondonGrimmer · 03/01/2022 18:28

@invasionofthegutsnatchers my iron is always "borderline low" (eg my serum folate is currently 3.4 and the range says 3.1 - 19.9) so the iron definitely helps with my tiredness and I feel it when I forgot to take them for a few days. Agree the Vit D should be taken when living in England in winter. B12 was just throwing stuff at it (and last test showed I had 219 ng/L and range is 190 - 950 so again lower end).

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/01/2022 18:35

OK so you are deficient so will benefit from supplementation.

Probiotics together with a daily kefir yoghurt from the supermarket for prebiotics? Good to rebuild your immune system and could help with bowel issues.

I took a very expensive turmeric supplement (with black pepper and ginseng for absorption) for over a year for back pain. My dehabilitating pain went within a few weeks and I thought it was amazing! I had started going to the gym very regularly at the same time in desperation as I was told it would help. I ran out of the turmeric and kept forgetting to reorder it. Lo and behold, the pain never came back (2 years later now) and I believe it was specific exercises at the gym which helped not the turmeric. It starts to come back if I go a 3-4 weeks without going to the gym as further evidence. Don’t waste your money!

LondonGrimmer · 03/01/2022 18:41

My GP always signs me off as NFA or borderline so take some supplements. I'd love to get to the bottom of my low energy levels but guess it's mental exhaustion from being a working parent in a pandemic...

Moonshine5 · 03/01/2022 18:52

Buy tumeric powder instead it's cheap and will be absorbed more effectively. Put a pinch in with literally anything you are eating or drinking. If it's heated, all the better i.e. in a pan like with an omelette. Or sipped with warm water or milk. (Btw The taste is not pleasant).
There's a million things you can do with it on your skin too.

Moonshine5 · 03/01/2022 19:01

I've been using a magnesium spray which I find helpful.
SBC on QVC do a Arnica & Wintergreen Thermal rub which I find good for aches.
Obviously I'm not a physician, I'm just saying I found the above useful personally

KatyMac · 03/01/2022 23:02

I agree about blood tests and I have low results for zinc, iron, folate, b12 and d

The other I take are companion supplements or ones specific for ME/CFS/FM
