High Platelets

Hi I am wondering if anyone is in the same boat, doctor told me 6 months ago my platelets were high but upon further digging he said they've been high for the last few years. He offered no reason and didn't seem concerned.
I've just gone for routine bloods today so will check again what the level is next week.
Not sure if relevant but I'm a vegetarian and also have an under active thyroid.
Thanks

Mine have also been high for quite a few years, it was only my rheumatologist who suggested recently that my GP should write to someone (can't remember who) to get further advice. Not had any updates yet

This happened to me in 2016 and I have never been so terrified in my life. I’d been feeling really weak and tired so my doctor requested blood tests. A couple of days later she called me and said she was coming to my house. She turned up with two student doctors and said that my tests showed my platelet numbers were too high. She was convinced it was a mistake so repeated the tests. They came back with the same results and she turned up at my house again. She said there was a high probability that there was something going on in body that wasn’t good (ie cancer). I was so frightened. I had to go for chest x rays, numerous ultrasounds and scans. Nothing was found. I had to keep having blood tests for over 18 months. I was certain I was dying. In the end I saw another doctor who said not to worry as I was probably just a person who’s platelets were high. I was still worried. After years of researching how long I had to live on doctor Google I happened to have downloaded the NHS app with my medical history on it. Just for curiosity reasons. One day I was looking at my history and could see blood test results throughout my life. Turns out my platelets have always been high. The relief was immense because it had consumed nearly two years of my life. A few months ago exactly the same thing has happened to my closest friend and she’s had to go through what I did. I realise that doctors have to be vigilant but I think it’s a lot more common than people realise.
Try not to worry and I hope you soon have reassuring answers

Thank you both. I just have to hold on to the fact that the doctor doesn't seem bothered at all.

Same here, just to reassure you if they were really over a certain limit, we would be referred. Otherwise it’s still deemed high side of normal.

Thank you @PurplePumpkinDream
