Tooth extraction

I have never had a tooth out before today. Appt was at 4.30 and it was a difficult extraction of a back tooth that had an infection. She told me to keep the gauze on the site til I got home (trip took 25 mins) and then take it off and throw it away. She told me not to rinse my mouth, or eat or drink for 4 hours. I did exactly that and it is still bleeding an hour later. I wouldn't say it's a significant amount but it's definitely still bleeding.
Is anyone able to advise if this is normal or should I be doing something about it?
There is a number on my 'post op instructions' but there's nobody there. I guess I was one of the last appts of the day and they've now gone home.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Sorry to hear that. This might help: 111.wales.nhs.uk/Problemsafteratoothextraction/

Thank you! Going to try the gauze idea, hopefully that will help.

I hope so! Didn't the dentist give you a sheet with what to do in this case? Mine did when I had a tooth out earlier this year...

Good luck.

Have you got more gauze? If so, put some in and chow down on it if you can for a good while to stem the bleed. If you can’t get it to stop bleeding, I would call 111 but some bleeding is to be expected and the gauze should help.

Yeah I had one out a couple months back, they gave me a spare gauze and told me to just bite down on it for a bit if the bleeding started again. Don't think it's much to worry about for first 48 hours if it's light tbh

Try using a tea bag if you dont have any more gauze. The tannins in tea promote blood clotting.

She gave me a sheet but it doesn't say anything about bleeding. Just said 'what not to do'.
