Hi. am having a dinner party for dh and 4 friends tonight. one of them has just told me that she vomitted during the night, but is still coming. we are having a fondue party. lots of dipping and sharing...so you can understand am concerned about catching this, esp so close to xmas.

my other friend was not bothered at all about my friend's revelation!

how do i handle this without causing offense. i dont want to be ill over xmas!

i do have a second fondue pot, could do a separate pot for her and her dh, maybe?? would this seem really rude??

apart from anything you will not relax due to worries about utensil swapping or something. You could always put a green sticker on her fondue fork.

murphyslaw · 21/12/2007 17:08

Your have got to cancel!

Anybody with a shred of decency wouldnt attend knowing that they were ill!!
IMO its just selfish

SantasLittleToiletFlusher · 21/12/2007 17:10

I don't know much about fondue, but could you still let her come and dish her some stuff to dip into into a seperate bowl? Therefore avoiding germ sharing.
Not sure how you do this without making her feel like a leper....

MrsCarrot · 21/12/2007 17:14

I would never feel bad if someone didn't want me to come for this reason, disappointed maybe. She should avoid coming out of decency, just in case it's passed to children for christmas, it's not worth it.

FlossALumpOfPud · 21/12/2007 17:15

She's probably pregnant!

TBH if she was up and about today and not been sick since I wouldn't be too worried. How many bugs have you had where you have just been sick once and no other effects?

loopylou6 · 21/12/2007 17:19

completely agree with the others, you CANNOT let her come to your party, even if you give her a different bowl to everyone else your still gonna catch her bug, tell her some emergencys come up

DaisyMoo · 21/12/2007 17:24

Well it doesn't sound a very bad bug (if it is a big at all) if she was sick once and is now fine I'd probably do a seperate fondue bowl for half the table rather than singling her out.

PS Why does everybody talk about 'this bug that's going round' like there's only one virus in the whole country?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 21/12/2007 17:28

Lots of people I know and on here seem to have had a really nasty virus which involves lots of throwing up. It seems prevalent at the moment. It might be several bugs but they are all nasty.

noonar · 21/12/2007 17:50

oh feck. have left it too late to cancel. its a shame she's put the ball in my court and not cried off herself. will do sep bowl/ forks etc. they are colour coded already- lol. keep your fingers crossed for us .

If she has a cold then perhaps she was sick because of couging.

FlossALumpOfPud · 21/12/2007 19:32

I'm sure you'll be fine.

ineedapoo · 22/12/2007 01:00

how did it go

susiecutiemincepies · 22/12/2007 01:06

I'd have thought that whilst there could be some sort of cross contamination with utensils etc, there wouldn't be with the actual food. you don't bite a bit, then re-dip it do you? I mean, i wouldn't... not even at buffets, its social etiquette I thought. YOu dip, bite it off then eat the rest with no dip on it IFYSWIM? or am i totally wrong in this?

Basically, I am trying to say, so long as she has her own cutlery and glass, it'll be fine. Or would have been fine ( just noticing the time of your OP and when the party was! )

I hope it all went well, and there are no bugs shared for christmas!

noonar · 22/12/2007 16:09

all ok so far...now am wondering if i am incubating this bug, would i be contagious before symptoms appear....
