dd2 age 7 presented me with a crumbling molar this afternoon.

I can't tell/ remember if this tooth was previosly filled.

It appears that half her tooth is missing.

Phoned dentist......told me to phone in the am...in hope of an emergency appt.

What's the likely putcome...please?

Hopefully they will see her as an emergency.Otherwise you could try a Dental access centre who should see emergency cases.

Thanks, wrinklytum

do you think they will remove it?

or can they rebuild teeth?

I suppose it depends on what the dentist thinks,am no expert sorry

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 21:50

Is it one of her new permanent molars, or a an old baby one which will be falling out before long?

And is it hurting her?

sAnTaLcLaUs · 20/12/2007 21:55

It's not really hurting her

I think she's a little shocked tbh.

She keeps poking it with her tongue

[really really really bad mother emoticon]..but i don't know whether it is baby or new tooth.....

hoping it's baby obviously.
It appears that it may have been filled..but i cannot remember having it filled..!

I'm concerned that it will deteriorate and cause a very unhappy xmas for her.

She was worrying earlier about them giving injenction.

The first adult molars come in behind the baby ones; is this tooth the 5th one back or the 6th? If the 5th then it's a baby tooth - if 6th then it's the first adult molar and needs more careful attention.

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 22:00

I would try to get an appt before Christmas anyway, but with a bit of luck they won't need to to do anything with it in a hurry

sAnTaLcLaUs · 20/12/2007 22:09

Thanks wendyweber

Pretty sure it's the fifth...

Here's hoping for an appt!

If you are regular patients they should be able to fit you in, and if they're concerned that it might cause pain over Christmas they may be able to put a temp filling in if they don't have time to do a proper one.

I can't remember at what age the baby molars normally fall out, but they will probably want to fill it rather than extract, so that it will stay in and preserve its space for later, iyswim.

Good luck

The receptionist was a little abrupt today!

You have been 100 times more helpful...thankyou.

There is literally half the tooth missing...

as long as she has no pain, i think we shall cope!

We have been to the dentist surgery.

Yes, she did have a filling in that tooth, but the it had all fallen to pieces...he has 'rebuilt' the side of the tooth and filled it.

Pre christmas panic over.
