Leukaemia and fabric tolerance question

Hope this is ok to ask here. An old school friend's daughter has leukaemia. I've not been in touch with her properly for years but she's updating on social media regularly about her forgetting daughter and her treatment.

When she fell ill I started making her a rainbow crochet blanket. It's also finished and ready to post to her but it's just occurred to me that she might not be able to tolerate it.

It's made from soft acrylic - will it be ok or should i keep hold of it until she's stronger? I don't want to send something that would upset her sensitive skin.

Thank you in advance

That sounds a lovely gift. Lots of kids on treatment take comfort from a blanket and can tolerate it fine. If she can’t currently tolerate it they will still feel all the love and care that went into it. I don’t know which type of leukaemia she has but treatment is often very long and kids become less sensitive to things on maintenance treatment

Thank you - that's reassuring Bear

I'm not sure what type she has, her mum has said it will be a 2 year treatment programme though

That sounds like acute lymphoblastic. After the intense bits the kids tend to regrow their hair, have their feeding tube out and return to school although missing lots. A lot of families find they were given lots of support during the first few months and then support fades away while families struggle on
