So how much bleeding is too much bleeding?

My period started on December 7th. And still hasn't stopped. And we aren't talking spotting here. I had my normal 1 day medium, 2 days heavy, then instead of having 2 more days of medium bleeding I had 2 days of really light bleeding. But just as I thought it was over, I started bleeding very heavily - filling my mooncup every 2 hours or so, and some rather large (like grape size) clots. And it's carried on like that evr since. So this is day 14 of my period. Hmmm - only just counted and that's not normal is it.

I've had an implant for about 2 years, and things had got pretty regular after the initial constant spotting. I did have very heavy periods pre-implant/post kids, but then it was very heavy for 5 days then finished.

How worried should I be? Is it worth going to teh doctor about this?

If it is still going on it might be worth getting it checked. Otherwise it will be xmas and New Year and nowhere will be open.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/12/2007 20:43

Umm I'd get that checked out if I were you. I had that about four months ago and it turned out to be a miscarriage

I'm sure in your case it's not but you don't want to leave it untreated in case it does get worse, or indeed in case you are pregnant and the baby is in trouble.

frostythesnowmum · 20/12/2007 20:47

Defo dr. check could be pre change, fibroids, miscarriage, and about a thousand other things needs checking.
Plus you might be loosing your stores of iron it needs stopping before you become anaemic.

I can't be pregnant. It would be the first recorded case of an Implanon failing after the first few weeks. Please tell me it couldn't be that.

My colleague was on the implant and found out she was pg at 27 weeks poor girl

I've got almost exactly the same problem. Had an inplant for about a year and got over the initial spotting. Regular for 7 months and then suddenly bleeding every 2 weeks. Been to the docs, neg pg test (urine and blood), normal smear etc. TBH I'm having it out within the next month. I'm fed up with it!

PrufrockingAroundTheXmasTree · 21/12/2007 20:00

Well I'm definately not pregnant - though test was the first thing the doctor did! I've been given drugs to stop the blleding - v. high dose progesterone. I can take them for 10 days, and will then have a breakthrough bleed. So I'm starting tomorrow as I really don't want to be starting a period again on NY Eve. If they don't return to normal after that they'll investigate further.

She did say that changes in bleeding were a side effect of the Implanon, and that Mirena was far more effective at reducing heavy periods. I'm just ridiculously squeamish about having something inserted into my cervix- especially as nothing has ever exited there.

at your friend frosty - was she OK

Glad everyting's looking up. DH and myself have decided I'm going to have the Implanon out after Christmas. Apart from the bleeding I've been very very tired and had next to no sex drive. So out it comes LOL!
