Itchy breasts

Lifeispassingby · 25/12/2021 23:34

For the last few weeks I have been suffering with really itchy breasts. It’s no worse in one than the other. It does seem to be worse at night when I take my bra off, but is still there in the day from time to time. No lumps or bumps or anything else but it is driving me mad when I go to bed it is so bad esp the last few days/nights. Has anyone had this before who can suggest anything? If need be I will contact my GP next week but wondered if anyone can help in the meantime?

Have you tried antihistamine? To see if that gives you any relief, washing powder change ? I'd say discuss it with your gp if it continues. How horrible for you Biscuit

I would speak to a pharmacist first. Ask them to recommend a soothing cream.

Where are they itchy? Could you have a fungal infection?

They are itchy all over and it’s to the point of unbearable, it took me ages to get to sleep in the night (say 2hrs) and they were just easing then. There is no sign of infection or anything, they look normal (for me lol). I have changed washing powder but the bra I’ve worn the last 2 days hasn’t been washed in it. I’m going to Tesco later to get the old powder I used before and I’ve changed bra to a different one so 🤞it settles down in next couple of days x

I hadn’t thought of a pharmacist (for this- they are usually first port of call) so might try this, thanks x

How old are you? There's a thread in the menopause section today about itchy breasts being a symptom of menopause.

I’m almost 40 and tbh I did wonder if it’s hormone related, my mum has menopause start at 48 and my grandmother at 41 so didn’t know if I was too young? I will check out the forum thank you x

The itching is most likely harmless. Have you gained weight recently? This could cause the skin to stretch and the tightness can result in persistent itching.

However, itching can also be a sign of a serious issue with your liver or kidneys. Definitely go to your GP if the itching persists.

Justalittlebit10 · 27/12/2021 01:26

I have this too OP. They are just mildly itchy in the day but drive me totally insane when I take my bra off, I scratch them in my sleep and they are covered in tiny scabs - attractive!
I went to the GP last week who did a thorough examination and then just said dry skin or an allergy.
He did refer me to the breast clinic though as I have a strong family history of breast cancer, and apparently met the criteria for referral Hmm

Thank you, I’m sure it’s harmless but can’t go on like it as it is awful. I will contact gp if needed x

I’ve been using childs farm moisturiser twice a day and wore a simple t shirt bra (no padding) yesterday and it was a lot better. I don’t think it’s the bras causing it but probably doesn’t help if the skin is irritated already

Could you have put weight on? I think as I've aged my breasts have got bigger and other bits of me less. So could a bigger bra help?

Lifeispassingby · 27/12/2021 07:50

@YourenutsmiLord I had similar conversation with DH earlier, the last few days I’ve been wearing an older bra (but tighter and not so saggy!) and it’s been really bad- yesterday wore usual trusty old bra and much better. Going to go for a bra fitting this week I think x

Get some Eurex anti itching cream from Boots. It works when I get itchy when wearing a certain bra. Almost instant relief and smells fine too.

gingergiraffe · 28/12/2021 19:55

Think it may be spelt Eurax.

Thanks for this, am going shopping tomorrow so will take a look. Fingers crossed it’s settled down now I’m wearing my old bra, but it’s doing nothing for me so need to sort it out 😂
