Tested positive for the first time

Hey everyone, I tested positive this morning for the first time in two years since this whole pandemic started, I assume I have the new variant that's been spreading like wildfire - yesterday I felt slightly tired but put it down to work then last night I could not sleep I was tossing and turning all night and had some sort of reflux?? Felt like I was going to be sick so this morning I took a test and low and behold it came out a very clear positive...now I'm concerned because I have muscle pain/stabbing pains all across my back and chest along with typical cold like symptoms headache, runny nose, shakes...is this pain normal? I've heard people say chest pain is the norm for covid but day one? I'm a bit anxious for the next few days, I have suspected postural tachycardia syndrome and I also don't do well with viruses, I had a normal viral infection (I say normal, just not covid) but I ended up in hospital on oxygen with a lung infection secondary to the virus so naturally I'm a bit anxious...just want any kind of reassurances please?! :( I have been drinking lots of fluids (feel constantly thirsty) and I have also been taking regular medicines and resting as much as I can but I think I'm just worrying a bit for what's to come in the next few days...:(

Reflux causes a pain in the chest.

I've also been suffering this week really badly and I think it's because I think in the run up to Xmas I eat things like pastry, more bread and cheese etc.

Usually I have soup and yoghurt every lunchtime and so I think I get a slower digestive system and it causes an imbalance.

I tested negative on LFT when tested to visit family.

So it maybe something different and a different cause and you have covid. (New variant is apparently like a cold but with a very sore throat)

Yeah possibly, it's just the pain that's concerning me in my chest tbh :/ I have sore throat, cold all of those symptoms aswell but I'm aware that's normal and not dangerous

I'm guessing chest pain isn't normal then with covid?:/

Chest pain is very normal with covid. Everyone I know had chest pain (although mostly earlier on in pandemic). It sounds like you are otherwise feeling not too bad now so just rest up!

Realitea · 25/12/2021 20:01

Did you have your vaccines? You might find the pains go by tomorrow. Take regular paracetamol and call 111 for reassurance if you are really worried. I had a horrible virus last year and tested negative for covid but had awful chest and back pains too. They were gone by the next day. (I still think it was covid, I just didn’t test properly!)

I had severe chest pain with covid when I had it March 2020.

I'm just thinking with reflux that could be what's causing it? Try gaviscon and if it helps you'll know either way?

I have chest pain but I am in agony all over. I missed my little girls opening all their pressies this morning :( gutted! Was so excited to see their faces but couldn’t physically lift my head. I’ve not managed to get a PCR but DH had a positive lateral flow and has the same symptoms, we are staggering around like old men, he had to actually assist me to the loo this morning. It’s like prickles all over your body! And like my limbs are full of sand. Horrendous. We’ve had a very sore throat.

However, I have had white spots on my tonsils which suggests I have a bacterial infection not viral so my GP prescribed antibiotics last night and they are helping, so I think the severity of how I feel is caused by the tonsillitis not covid. Just shit luck I got both at the same time.

Sorry your Christmas has been ruined too. I pulled my little girls out of nursery two weeks early to try and avoid us being ill over Christmas…they have both had awful coughs but thankfully that was a week ago and they’ve been ok today. God knows where they got it! It’s everywhere.

Hope you feel better soon, I feel slightly more human now. But have slept almost the whole day. So rest and drink lots of water and stay on top of paracetamol. x

Oh also I felt very sick too, I still feel queasy now. But I have been nibbling breadsticks and cheese savouries all day which seem to help (bringing back pregnancy memories 😂) x

As a contact tracer I heard every strange covid symptom known to man. Including these. Given your history don't hesitate to contact 111 if you are concerned.

Thanks everyone, I called 111 just for reassurance and doctor was very happy to assist, said totally normal nothing to be concerned about only when I become short of breath and get blue lips or blue nails then it becomes more of a worry but he said for now I'm fine and to just rest up

Get a sats probe. Generally oxygen levels should be >95%.
999 if you suddenly become breathless at rest or worse breathing within an hour or sats
