Elevated heart rate after alcohol?

First of all Merry Christmas 🎅🏻
Last night my Fitbit recited my resting heart rate and it's 90% over my normal resting heart rate during sleep and for the first 3/4 of the night is around 80s/90s and a few spikes of over 100bpm.
We had a Chinese takeaway at around 9pm last night and I did drink a bottle of wine 😬😂
Would this raise your testing heart rate?
I'm only concerned as I had my booster last weekend so worried about the reported heart related symptoms
Thank you 😊

I would cut down on the booze.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 25/12/2021 08:34

Morning op, without fail my heart rate is elevated on my fitbit after I've had a drink for most of the night, especially so if I've eaten salty junk food with the booze too. It's always back to normal the next night so don't worry.

Alcohol always raises my heart rate, as does eating a big meal. It makes sense - your blood vessels dilate so the heart needs to beat faster to maintain blood pressure.

My heart rate also increased overnight following my first and booster jabs but I don’t see it as anything to worry about, just a curiosity. If I wasn’t wearing a Fitbit I would never have known.

Yep, it’s the booze.
Peri menopause also does it, if you’re in that age range.

@Esspee

I would cut down on the booze.
It's Christmas 😳😂🤦🏻‍♀️

In my experience, it is the booze. Of you don't want to spoil your statistics, take it off and leave it on the bedside table when you have had a few.

Not that I would do that of course.....Wink

TheCreamCaker · 25/12/2021 08:48

I'd think it was more likely to be the Chinese food, which usually contains Monosodium Glutamate (MSG). Notoriously bad.

SummerOfComedy · 25/12/2021 09:12

Could it be the sulphites in the wine?

It was my drink of choice but it got to the point where it made me feel horrible. My heart rate increased, my face would flush to the point of feeling sunburnt and I just generally felt rotten after drinking half a bottle.

It's really put me off drinking in general, but if I do have a drink, I have white rum or gin. These have no sulphites and I feel normal after having them.
Try switching for a while and see what happens.

Without fail my resting heart rate during sleep is very elevated if I have had any more than one small glass of wine. My RHR during the night is higher than during the day anyway (due to a lung condition, I think). During the day my RHR is 55, during a night with no booze it's more like 68 and during a night when I have drunk it is in the high 70s.

My heart rate has been elevated on and off since my booster last week, and my watch alerted me to an abnormal heart rate during Xmas dinner Confused

MrGruber · 25/12/2021 18:31

MGM ... yes my friend always suffered this , plus missed beats when eating Chinese takeaway , and symptoms stopped when cut them out

I always had fast heart rate after modest amount of alcohol , don"t drink now anyway

PickAChew · 25/12/2021 18:34

Both of those would. Alcohol does anyhow but a lot of people get that from the histamines in fermented food, which Chinese is full of.

TiddleTaddleTat · 25/12/2021 18:40

I get that too. Drinking and also pre ovulation causes higher histamine levels. I had it for hours last night, kept me awake and meant I’ve been off the booze today. It’s probably for the best!

Crazzzycat · 25/12/2021 18:41

I had a single glass of wine last week and my heart rate was sky high for hours afterwards. I drink only very occasionally though and after tracking my heart rate over the evening, I think my alcohol consumption is going to be even less. It was pretty unpleasant.

SantaPaws1 · 25/12/2021 18:42

Yes alcohol does that to me too

unfar · 25/12/2021 18:47

It's the drink. I'v got tachycardia and advised not to drink, I don't apart from special occasions.

MirthlessChuckle · 25/12/2021 18:50

Mine goes up and down every month by about 10 points, is that normal for others too? In which case it might just be it on the increase as usual?
