I've had mine for about 3yrs now I went to the chiropodists yesterday and i'm still in pain he has offered for me to go back and he will look again free of charge but he mentioned this being the end of the road and having to see a specialist and will explain in more detail when i go and see him - I'm the impatient type so anyone who knows what happens after the end of the road can you please come and tell me whats going to happen next so I can prepare myself for it? My sister has had ingrowing toenails for years and has managed them quite well herself for ages and has never had to see a specialist so I assumed it would be the same for me.

What did he do to you yesterday ? was it the cut down the middle of the nail ? because that works but takes a while as it grows out.

I think in the worse case scenario they operate.

I had one big toenail done in a GP's surgery. Two small injections (though not that small for me, as I've got a needle phobia), and half the nail cut off, then liquid nitrogen on to kill the rest of the nail cells.

It didn't work - but that wasn't a bad thing, as the nail grew back slightly thicker but in the correct place and I've not had a problem with it since.

It was a week or so moving gingerly though ... compared to the near tears whenever I banged my foot against a door/chair/fresh air, it was an extremely worthwhile treatment for me.

I had the whole (it was ingrown both sides) of my left big toenail removed 3 weeks ago in my GP's surgery had to keep the foot raised for 24 hours after then could only wear sandals for 10 days I tended not to wear socks with them so people could see my bandaged toe rather than get strange looks for wearing sandals at this time of year!. No real pain just a bit sore and uncomfortable especially when you wake up during the night to find your cat lying on your bad foot. To me the removal felt like the same feeling you get when a tooth is removed IYSWIM.

You are left with an open wound to start with so wouldn't advise looking if your squeamish, mine looked awful when the dressing was first removed but nearly 4 weeks later its completed healed and I'm pain free for the first time in years.

Hope that helps and it wasn't to much information.

I had a 'double, partial nail evulsion (sp?)'

My nail is now narrower than the other one, but I still have something to paint!

Mine was down to my DH cutting it badly when I was 7 months PG

Apparently he has cut down one side right down to the matrix and if that hasn't taken the pain away then i'll need to see someone else on one hand i want it sorted once and for all and i'm the type of person who would rather have a minor op than carry on in pain every 6wks or so and also because to be very honest we have been paying out to have treatment every 6 weeks at most for 3 years and we have no money so if i can get it sorted and stop having to pay that money then its worth the pain of an operation because it will take away a bit of my money worries, which are causing me awful headaches (literally). Having just searched on google i quite fancy Phenolisation if i get a choice.
