Feeling dizzy on and off for a few days, any opinions?

For the last few days I've been feeling very dizzy when getting up from sitting or lying down. I'm also feeling dizzy if I'm standing for a long time. I don't have any other symptoms except a headache in the evening. I rang the out of hours doctor service and the doctor I spoke to said not to worry as my blood pressure is normal (I'm on blood pressure medication but it's working well).
Obviously I'm going to try and see my GP after Christmas but it's very annoying. Has anybody had something similar happen? My iron is a little low but it has been before and I've never had dizziness with it. I'm taking an iron supplement.

Have you done a Covid test? There's another thread today about dizziness as a symptoms. I only had a headache but now have dizziness and am positive. No cough, runny nose or cold symptoms or temp.

Yes. My vitamin d level was very high.

I was dizzy when I had anaemia

mothtoaflame · 21/12/2021 19:42

Could you be menopausal? Dizzy spells are common with peri/meno.

POTS?

Ear infection or vertigo would be possible too I guess.

I've done two antigen tests since the dizziness started and they were negative. I think I'm perimenopausal because my periods are still regular but much heavier than they used to be and I'm late 40s.

Is the blood pressure medication for high blood pressure?

Asking because my mum was put on meds for high blood pressure then started to get all these symptoms. When her blood pressure was checked it was showing as fine, but they asked her to do a home monitor for a few days.

Anyway, turns out she has white coat syndrome and her blood pressure shoots up whenever it is taken by a professional, so the medication was actually giving her low blood pressure Grin

Did the dizziness with anaemia get worse as the day went on? I've been sitting down relaxing since I got home from work but it's worse now than it was earlier.

@RememberThePenguins, that's interesting. I have white coat syndrome too. The GP was getting very high readings in the office so I had the 24 hour monitor and that showed that I was borderline high so I started medication. That was in 2019 though and I haven't had any issues until now.

Could it be labyrinthitis?

Mooloolabababy · 21/12/2021 20:19

@SeaToSki

Could it be labyrinthitis?
Yes sounds like labyrinthitis. Had this a few years ago and had to have a week off work as the room was constantly spinning like I was drunk! Went back to work after a week but it took a good few weeks to completely go. I'm Now prone to it whenever I get a virus and can no longer go on spinny rides!
mrsrobin · 22/12/2021 08:53

I agree it does sound like labyrinthitis. I have had this a couple of times and each time it lasted for a few days to a week, on and off.
Interestingly, as Moo above said about spinny rides - I can't go on them anymore either - but never really thought about why!

SeaToSki · 22/12/2021 10:05

If it is labyrinthitis, look up labyrinthitis maneuvers on you tube. They are vomit inducing while you do them, but do actually work

This has been happening to me for years. Don't leap up when you stand , do it slowly. It's most likely to be caused by a change in blood pressure.
