Can I see the dentist about a potential throat infection?

Hi

My doctors are rubbish and have put me on 2 different types of antibiotics as I have had a bad throat for 3 weeks. They told me they don’t do swabs and don’t know why the antibiotics aren’t working. They gave me a blood test for glandular fever which I have already had so I know it’s not that. I have small white spots on my tonsils and my mouth is very itchy and sore.

Could I see a dentist about this? I’m wondering if it’s thrush of the back of the mouth/throat? The doctors won’t see me and are telling me to wait till the bloods come back. I feel like it’s getting blood out of a stone!

Bad timing and really don’t want to go to A&E as partner is ECV high risk.

Thanks

If anyone cares Grin doctor called and said he won’t be prescribing me anything my white blood cells are normal and he wouldn’t do anything about it even if it was a bad case of tonsil stones. He said I can come in and show him tonight but he won’t be doing anything about it and it’s apparently normal for it not to clear completely after a round of antibiotics sometimes symptoms can take a while to go? I’m sorry is this complete BS or is what some of he is saying true!? I literally have white spots and a much larger tonsil than the other ?

Yes, in my experience it can take a while for your tonsils to go down to normal size again and for all the white spots to disappear. They now know your bloods are normal (so no raging bacterial infection), so if you feel alright generally I think you probably just need to give it some time.

@Changelingbutonlyforme thanks 111 have told me to go A&E. unsure if this is a good idea at the moment. I still have pain in my throat too.

I’m not a dr or nurse so I’d say 111s advice definitely trumps mine.
