DH has a cold and a tickly cough, not covid thankfully just a cold.
We're on day three.
He's been taking covonia tickly cough medicine, has had an antihistamine and some honey and lemon.
What else can he do to help it?
It's driving me mental listening to him coughing every couple of minutes day and night I'm ready to smother him with a pillow Smile

@carrietwick

Broncho Stop pastilles were amazing when I had a chest infection last month, I still needed to go to work and needed to calm the coughing down and these were a miracle also stopped the coughing long enough for me to get some sleep.
Thankyou, I'll grab some of these tomorrow too

The reason pharmacists get arsy about codeine for suppressing a cough is it should only be used for a dry cough which isn't productive and really only at night to help sleep.
A productive cough should not be suppressed, the fluid needs to be gotten up not sent down to your lungs and cause an infection.

Agree with pp's that Codeine helps dry tickly coughs.

Try, in this order

Soluble Co-codamol (gurgling before swallowing helps a bit)
Robitussin Dry Cough (fabulous for calming a coughing fit)
And finally a Tyrozet (to numb the tickle)

To help with sleep, I freeze water in a bottle with a twisted spout. Fall asleep with it in mouth. The periodic drips as the ice melt keeps throat moist and avoids some of the coughing. You do look stupid though.

Garlic
Ginger
Lemon
Honey
All the above in a pan on the hob, boil and simmer. Drink regularly

I tried to buy Tryozets in Boots a few weeks ago and was told they'd been withdrawn .

Steam helps ,but not v practical or affordable to try and sleep upright in shower with heat up high.

Sucking on chocolate is supposed to help.
