I’ve started wetting myself at night

Can’t believe I’m posting this but I’m 26, a mum, but I had a c-section.

I’ve wet myself during the night twice in 10 days. I wake up near the end of doing it. If making me feel really gross and embarrassed and I don’t know why it’s suddenly started happening?

My son is 2 so it can’t be to do with my pregnancy. I’m thinking of going to the doctor but as I said I’m super embarrassed.

Any knowledge would be helpful because as I said I don’t know why it’s happening I feel like a child.

Thank you :(

It won’t let me do an econsult but I will call first thing. Thank you everyone!

Hi OP, i also had this a while ago. I had no signs of a UTI, I wet myself 2 nights in a row. I went to the GP and was told it was probably night terrors i couldn’t remember. A few days later it happened again, I went back and seen another GP, I had a UTI and the start of a nasty kidney infection. I had a slightly raised temperature and had a weeks course of anti biotics. Call your GP, honestly, they have seen everything x

I know someone who became urinary incontinent due to stress when her father was dying. It cleared up after he died.

AnnaMagnani · 19/12/2021 12:05

I know you are embarrassed but in the rare moments GPs aren't talking about wee, they are talking about poo, piles or vomit. Usually in graphic detail.

Yours will probably be one of the nicest consults they have all day Flowers

rosydreams · 19/12/2021 12:08

you can ask for a female doctor if your embarrassed it may make you feel more comfortable

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 19/12/2021 12:21

I've got family who are GPs. Literally at least 2 or 3 conversations every single day will be wee or poo related. You'll just be one of a blur of faces by the time they go home after seeing you.

The reason most people get embarrassed about bladder control issues is because it something you have to learn to control it as a child. You also have to learn to walk, and talk, and you might be a bit embarrassed if you suddenly lost the ability to do either of them, but mostly you'd be wanting to get seen by a medical professional right fucking now.

You wouldn't be umm-ing and ahh-ing about it on Mumsnet, is what I'm saying. GP. Now!

OP, we're going to move this one out of AIBU into General Health where we think you are more likely to get the support you are after. Flowers

A friend did this a few months after ds2. She hadn't slept properly in months and it was on one of the first full night's sleep she'd had. She also had bad postnatal health anxiety. This didn't help! But it just happened twice and once she'd had some proper rest and got the anxiety under control, it didn't happen again.

I feel really run down and awful today, hot with chills and a pounding headache. I am overweight and did have gestational diabetes so I’m quite worried about the diabetes potential :(

You poor gal OP. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Did you manage to get a HbA1c when you were postnatal? & one every year since? Perhaps not due to the pandemic - either way now is the time to get one sorted out. Please don’t be embarrassed - it’s really brave of you to post this and your GP can now start to help you.

Hairyfairy01 · 19/12/2021 12:57

Any issues with sensation down below OP?

hohohooooo · 19/12/2021 13:35

I had similar issues OP. I talked to my lovely GP who was very kind and helpful. She ran loads of tests which all came back clear.
To solve the problem long term, I lost weight. In the short term, my GP a prescribed tablets which sorted me out very quickly.

I also started using the NHS Squeezy app which teaches pelvic floor exercises and reminds you to do them. The app costs £2.99 - money well spent!

Please see your GP. My dad ignored continence issues for as long as he could, and it turned out to be prostate cancer - the cancer is now under control, but it's wrecked his kidneys and he's facing dialysis. If he'd gone to the doctor when he started having issues, his kidneys would be an awful lot happier today. Given you're female, you don't have prostate cancer, but whatever the issue, it's better treated early. If my dad's story gets one person to go to the doctor even though they're embarrassed, that can only be a good thing.

If you are hot, it could be a UTI. My husband's only symptoms are going to the loo a lot and having a temperature.
Alwaysfullofquestions · 19/12/2021 15:52

I’ve been to urgent care because I wasn’t feeling well. No UTI and no diabetes already my heart rate was 140. No clue what’s going on...

OP posts:
herecomesthsun · 19/12/2021 15:59

Hope you get better soon x

(NB increased heart rate could be anxiety)

NoNameHere12 · 19/12/2021 16:03

Let’s me stark about this, don’t matter if you don’t have any other symptoms, your an adult that’s wetting the bed suddenly, so obviously something is wrong and it could be serious!! Don’t for one second be embarrassed, and don’t think the doctor will look twice either as they will know this is out of character and something is causing this. It’s medical!!

Definitely go to the GP!

Beseen22 · 19/12/2021 16:55

Did they admit you? Any fever? Blood pressure ok? Hope you are feeling better soon. I think a new incontinence in a young person (not like stress incontinence when laughing) should be probably be assessed on a fairly urgent basis.

MissSmiley · 19/12/2021 20:29
