Am hoping there is someone here who knows how this stuff works.
I have just had my op cancelled- not covid but because they had to bump me from the list for someone’s emergency cancer op, which is fair enough.
I am due for an endometrial ablation for very very heavy periods. I saw the surgeon at the end of Nov and he was hoping to get it done the following week but couldn’t for whatever reason, they sent me the 20th Dec date now changed to 30th Dec.
The thing is that a few days after seeing the surgeon the bleeding went haywire and an ambulance got sent out. The medication they gave me to settle the bleeding didn’t really do the trick after a week or so, so I have had a different lot from the gp though that is not entirely sorting things out as it did in hospital; the underlying problem seems to be worsening.
Obviously the goal here is to avoid another emergency hospital admission but the longer I have to wait for the op the less likely this will be.
(Just so you know what I mean by heavy bleeding, what put me in hospital was losing a pint and a half in under 12 hours, I currently lose half a pint or so a day but with no real gap between periods any more - not trivial.)
So I have 2 questions really.
The first is will the person making decisions about who to bump off the waiting list have access to the information about how my condition is escalating, or will they just be making the decision based on the original referral? And if not is there any way I can get the information to them?
Secondly do they choose the person to cancel purely based on how serious it is or do they try not to cancel you more than a certain number of times? Is there a chance I could be bumped repeatedly for months or will they say it’s somebody else’s turn next time?
Thanks.
