Any suggestions to soothe chapped cheeks and chin

Hi, any advice gratefully received. 10mo DD is teething (at last!) but has really badly chapped cheeks and chin. I've tried Vaseline, and Sudocrem (not at the same time!) but neither seems to work.
Any suggestions what else I can try?
Thanks

My friend swears by Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. I used to use an Avent one, the name escapes me, but it was brilliant. Check boots out, they stock Avent.

Are you making sure you are putting the vaseline on before you leave the hose, onto clean dry skin? Be liberal with it too. Also, with the biting winds around, keep the raincover down on her pushchair

pigleto · 19/12/2007 15:09

I use lanolin (the sort you put on cracked nipples), it seems to have more sticking power than vaseline.

E45 works for us

LiegeAndLief · 19/12/2007 16:22

Bog standard petroleum jelly has always worked on ds's dribble-covered face.

Agree with Maidamess - 8 hr cream (not cheap but you only need a tiny bit) or Avent Magic Cream (was this the one u meant M-a-M?)

Agree with others;Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is fantastic stuff.
Strong smell though.

Many thanks everyone.

Yes, I'd been putting the Vaseline on thick, and still getting sore cheeks shining back at me like balesha beacons!

Will try E45 + raincover on pushchair for a few days (as that's what I have in the house already) and if that doesn't do the trick will get in some of the Avent cream and more lanolin too (gave mine away, but I do remember it was very sticky ).

Thanks again

Oh, I'm so slow at typing!
Two more votes for the Arden cream while I was tik-toking away.
Right, will try that one next if the E45 fails to do the trick...

Definitely E45 and you need to keep reapplying. Or try vaseline intensive care cream.

meepingaroundthechristmastree · 19/12/2007 19:04

Epaderm is also good - doc should be able to prescribe it so less cost for you
Also - if she's teething her wee cheeks will glow red cos of her teeth too!

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream
Magic

The 8 hour cream is amazing. I held out against buying some for ages, and it does sort things fast.
Waitrose bottom butter is fab for soothing sore skin too - its solid olive and chamomile oil

Maveta · 19/12/2007 19:50

oh great, this is the thread for me.. will try and get some e.arden cream for my boy, his cheeks are so sore. I tried vaseline but then the next day he had these very crackly dry patches on his cheeks and chin, peeling like sunburn.. was that the vaseline or just the skin damage itself??

DarthVader · 19/12/2007 19:54

Put the 8 hour cream on when he has gone to sleep. Next morning, check out the difference.

One of the essentials of the modern world.

clur79 · 19/12/2007 19:56

Just to say if you go to an Elizabeth Arden make up counter and ask, they often have samples of the 8 hour cream to try - saves buying it to try it!

8 hour cream is great for you too, never used it on DS (will now!), but love it for me!
