Water flossers for teeth... A worthwhile investment? Opinions please!

I'm thinking of buying a water flosser as I struggle with brown stains and build up on my teeth. It's making me very self-conscious. For various reasons, I struggle to get to the dentist on a regular basis so try to manage myself as much as possible.
I used to have a descaler to help get rid of stains but have heard that the water flossers are a great investment and work wonders. Anyone use them? Are they as good as the adverts make them out to be?

I asked my dental hygienist about these as I get a lot of plaque build-up and she said that as plaque is sticky its better to use the interdental brushes. Not sure if this helps?

In my experience they are nice to use but do nothing more than rinse between your teeth. I expected far more from mine but soon switched back to interdental brushes. Don't waste your money. I'd recommend having an 'Airflow' treatment by a dental hygienist to remove stains, costs about £100

For staining I can recommend white glo toothpaste. Use it to remove the staining with the brush that comes with it then swap back to normal paste/brush

I actually really like mine and am still using it every night 2 years down the line. I've got the Philips Sonicare one.
Flossing/mini brushes may well be better but I just rarely wanted to use them, whereas I actually quite enjoy using the water flosser and theres less throwaway plastic involved. I put mouthwash in ours instead of water and it feels amazing using it after normal cleaning. It only really cleans between your teeth though so may not help with staining. I have a hygenist appointment at the dentist every year for general staining.

Can you provide a link please? Seems to be a few on the market using that name.

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe sure! See pic - they're much of a muchness, just different types like smokers/tea. The charcoal one is shit so I don't recommend that one, and sometimes they're in b&m or home bargains

I couldn't get on with mine. Like a previous poster said, it just sort of rinsed but didn't have the power I expected to actually 'floss' my teeth'. It was also messy and I don't want to use it in the shower as some people recommended! It ended up in a cupboard and I ultimately chucked it.

Thank you @NMC2022

My dentist was very sceptical and would rather I used floss or interdental brushes but I just cannot get on with them. I find the water flosser much easier to use. I have less discomfort around my teeth, I can dislodge stuff that's stuck that's causing me discomfort and my gum health has improved. Gums get worse if I get out the habit of using it for while. Evidence is good here as I'm basing that on the score the dentist gives my gums. Well, good for a case study of one.

I'd recommend.

I've got Waterpik flosser and I'd definitely recommend it. Before I got one my gums would bleed nearly every time I cleaned my teeth but after a coup,e of months of using my flosser they don't. They haven't bled for over a year now. I don't think it's coincidence.

However, I don't know if this would be any better than using normal floss or those little brushes as I never used either very often before.

I love mine, i try to water floss after every meal.

I'm getting one for Christmas so reading with interest.
The hygienist told me to use the interdental brushes to get rid of the staining (plaque) on my teeth and I do but my teeth are crooked so some the brush slides in between and some it just pokes the front.
I'm hoping the water flosser helps the crowded ones.

Mynameisrow · 17/12/2021 23:37

Love mine. My dentist told me last time I was in that she was so impressed with my dental hygiene and can tell I regularly use floss.

I use mine almost daily but I do still use interdental brushes once or twice a week just as it feels like it gives a good scrub in between my teeth.
