DS(3) was vomiting in the night a few days ago, has been extremely tired ever since, I assumed a bug and just did the usual for a virus (calpol, plenty of fluids etc) Hehas been really miserable for the lastfew days though and since yesterday any little touch to his head has made him cry. Now I've noticed his neck is swollen and he has a huge lump on the left hand side of it.
I have managed to make an appointment at the doctors to see a nurse this afternoon, but I'm panicing.

I have been googling reyes syndrome, just mention it to the Dr. It is very rare but can be linked to Ch. p. and involves the head etc.
Don't want to freak you out. Just be aware.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 19/12/2007 19:54

Lorayn has he been seen yet? I imagined it was a house call but prob you are out. I have to go to put boys to bed but hope you get something useful from Dr. (like peace of mind)
x

bossybaublesinherbritches · 19/12/2007 20:06

Probably not back yet - I think she was going to the out of hours clinic, most areas don't do house calls any more sadly!!

lilolilbethlehem · 19/12/2007 20:17

My DS was referred to a consultant re lymph node swellings(as I've posted before when I was really worried) Apparently the swellings can be a very normal reaction to infection. Hopefully this will be so in this case, but always worth having swellings checked out.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 19/12/2007 21:19

It's infected impetigo, he ahs two lots of antibiotics and the doctor said it's no wonder he has his glands up/fever/vomiting, it's his body trying to fight off the infection. He has had his first lot of medicene (had to go to the pharmacy in the next 'town' so took a while) and he has happily gone to bed.

Phew TT- bet you're rellieved, nasty but not very serious, good for you for getting it sorted.Bet he'll feel tons better in 24 hours, poor mite!

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 19/12/2007 21:35

Great! Although clearly not.
Hooray! no I mean, horrible!
but yea! not something worse!

Oh bugger it, I'm pleased he is now being helped and has an infectious, miserable disease that will go away soon.

Been a bit concerned for your lad, I have. Been thinking about him and everyfin'.

Hope he feels better really soon

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 19/12/2007 21:41

It's the not knowing & "what if's" isn't it - your imagination runs riot

Might be worth giving him a course of multi-vitamins while he's fighting it off? His immune system has taken a battering & it'll give his body a bit of support. Is he OK with fruit & juices too ?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 19/12/2007 21:42

Gosh yes, he loves satsumas will eat them like sweets so I'll be stuffing him on those tomorrow.

bossybaublesinherbritches · 19/12/2007 22:00

Good-oh

I LOVE satsumas- shame you can only get them this time of year!

smartiejake · 19/12/2007 22:11

Poor little thing and poor you from the worry.
dd1 had this once on her hand badly infected. Impetigo is nasty- be VERY careful it's extremely contageous (dd2 got it at the same time on her leg but not so badly) I think they recommend using separate towels- that sort of thing.
The treatment works very quickly so hopefully he will be back on form for the big day next week.

SpottyHamster · 19/12/2007 22:42

Just to say DS1 has had this a few times on account of his bad excema, which makes you more prone to it. BUT it clears up VERY FAST once on antibiotics- visible improvement often after a couple of doses. Should be a lot better tomorrow.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 20/12/2007 07:01

Oh, just seen, I am very relieved for you, it sounds quite nasty but at least you are on top of it. I had never heard of it before, hope he is back to his usual self very soon xx

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 20/12/2007 07:02

...and well done for insisting on seeing a doctor. I hate to think what would have happened otherwise. Thank goodness for good parents!

SquonkaClaus · 20/12/2007 07:40

phew!

well done for being a bolshy mum and getting your lad to a doctor

glad it's something so eminently treatable and from what everyone else has posted, it sounds like he'll be running around again by weekend.

Whaddaya mean they don't do housecalls???? Is that everywhere? My doc told me about a month ago to call him out in the middle of the night if I had to! Tis a disgrace I tellya!

bossybaublesinherbritches · 20/12/2007 08:17

Wow Squonk hang on tightly to your GP then if he still does house calls!!

(if fact put him in the cupboard, don't let him out!!)

A dying breed!!.

SquonkaClaus · 20/12/2007 08:52

I have the new fangled handcuffs ready for him

(she looks remarkably happy, doesn't she!)

GreebosWhiskers · 20/12/2007 09:01

Poor wee love but thank god it wasn't something worse!

My dd3 came down with impetigo behind both ears on xmas day 2005 (her 1st xmas too) so we spent xmas lunch at the out of hours service. The doc there only gave her cream which did nothing so we had to go to gp after xmas to get antibiotics which she turned out to be allergic to. Cue another trip fo the gp for different antibiotics. They did work fast on the impetigo tho' - the allergy rash lasted longer.

Hope your wee one's better fast.

bossybaublesinherbritches · 20/12/2007 20:34

TT how is DS today?

VictorianSqualor · 21/12/2007 20:36

hmmm, more developments, he now has about five/six spots, very much like chicken pox and a slight raised rash all over his body.
I'm going to have to take him back to the docs arent i?
