Could someone please advise? He’s not in much discomfort and can eat ok, but it’s such a huge swelling and appeared suddenly.

He’s 14 hence the acne... I’ve given him an antihistamine but it’s not made any difference.

A&e, anaphylaxis?

CottonSock · 14/12/2021 20:43

Wasp sting... unlikely at this time of year.
Allergic reaction- seek medical advice

dudsville · 14/12/2021 20:43

I was recently in a&e for this, they'll want to see him. It can build quickly.

Icecreaminwinter · 14/12/2021 20:45

Allergy. What has he eaten?

Xigris · 14/12/2021 20:45

A&E in case of any further swelling / airway issues

Phyllis321 · 14/12/2021 20:45

Gosh, really A&E?
What happened @dudsville ?

I used to get this loads, often my whole lips. Antihistamine would usually work but would take a while. It never spread to my tongue or throat. I had allergy tests but nothing ever came up, it was put down to me having autoimmune issues.

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/12/2021 20:46

Definitely A&E

dudsville · 14/12/2021 20:47

I had mild anaphylaxis, but they immediately put a line in because it can reach critical levels quickly. Really. They'll want to see him.

dudsville · 14/12/2021 20:47

My airway constricted op. Its a serious thing.

Mosaic123 · 14/12/2021 20:48

I've had similar from eating kiwi fruit. Has he had anything unusual to eat or kissed anyone?

Donotgogentle · 14/12/2021 20:48

I would also go to A&E in case it’s an allergic reaction which gets worse. You can always go home again if it calms down.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/12/2021 20:49

Shit. Could easily be the start of anaphylaxis. Antihistamines and straight to A&E right now.

dudsville · 14/12/2021 20:49

Mine was identified as not having a cause, and I was already on lots of antihistamine before it happened.

PotteringAlong · 14/12/2021 20:49

Definitely A&E! That’s not something you want to mess around with.

crosbystillsandmash · 14/12/2021 20:50

I hope you're on your way to a&e op!

Ds has nut allergy, if his lip looked that I'd be calling 999 and getting his epipens out Sad

HollowTalk · 14/12/2021 20:50

Definitely A&E. What has he eaten today?

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/12/2021 20:53

Do you have any anti-histamines? If you do (and he’s not having any other issues such as breathing difficulty) administer one and give it 30 minutes. No improvement then, then yes A&E, that’s quite dramatic out of nowhere.

FreeBritnee · 14/12/2021 20:54

Cheilitis granulomatosa? Any symptoms of crohn’s op?

Phyllis321 · 14/12/2021 20:54

Thanks all

Respiratory nurse here, def take to A&E immediately. Although he may feel fine / look well this can quickly change and any swelling in or around the mouth can be very serious as the airways may become affected. Please go now.

mightbeyesmightbeno · 14/12/2021 20:58

If any concerns call 999.
